Young Scores Overtime Winner

Lingenhoel Group - Arden and Lisa Lingenhoel - Cutler Real Estate AdLouisville and GlenOak battled through constant rain all night long and neither defense would budge. Just like the first meeting between these two teams on September 3, the game would be decided in the final seconds of the contest. Unlike the first game, it would take more than regulation to decide a victor.

After 91 minutes of scoreless action, Leopard junior Cameron Young had enough. He intercepted a Golden Eagle pass near the GlenOak sideline just across midfield. Young then dribbled in space down the left sideline for about 30 yards before angling right toward the middle of the field. From about 28 yards out on the left football hash, Young rocketed a line drive into the right side of the net sending Louisville to the sectional finals.

The crowd erupted and Young was mobbed by his teammates around midfield. The scoreboard time of 3:59 remained and after a short delay the “1” was lit up on the home side of the scoreboard much to the delight of the crowd in attendance who had weathered the elements. It was an amazing individual play capping off an extraordinary team effort.

Leopards Set Team Record with 13th Win

Jenny Can Cleaning AdThe Leopards earned their 13th win of the season in a golden goal thriller. Louisville surpassed the 2007 (12-4-2) and 2020 (12-5-2) teams who held the mark previously with 12 wins each.

The Leopards set the team record for most wins in the regular season with their 12th win last Thursday against New Philadelphia. Both the 2007 and 2020 earned their 12th win during tournament play.

1st Overtime Win in Louisville History

The overtime victory is the first in the history of the Louisville Leopards Boys Soccer program. Overtime only occurs in the tournament, so this was just the third time Louisville has ever played past regulation in its history. The Leopards lost those previous two matchups on the road at Ravenna in a shootout 2-1 in 2005 and and at Orrville in overtime 3-2 in 2019.

Overtime at Louisville Leopards Stadium

Louisville Leopards Stadium had never experienced an overtime football game prior to last Friday’s 24-17 double overtime victory over Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin. Just four days later, the Leopards Boys Soccer Team was also victorious in its first ever home overtime contest.

This is was not the first Golden Goal ever scored at Louisville Leopards Stadium though. On October 17, 2013, nearly nine years to the day, Rachel Baughman scored a golden goal with 12:17 left in overtime to lift the Lady Leopards past GlenOak 1-0 in earning the first sectional championship in team history.

Louisville Vs. GlenOak Boys Soccer History

Every year since 2003 the Leopards faced the Golden Eagles and failed to win all 19 times. This year’s team flipped the script winning twice against GlenOak. Louisville also won at GlenOak 1-0 back on September 3 when another junior Drew Dillen scored what proved to be the game winner with14 seconds remaining.

The Leopards still trail the all-time series against the Golden Eagles 2-17-2, which includes an 1-9-1 record when playing at home in the series. But this Louisville squad won’t be caring about that when they are heading to Solon on Saturday.
