Girls Soccer Blanks St. Vincent-St. Mary 5-0 in Opener
Louisville 5, St. Vincent-St. Mary 0
The Louisville Leopards Girls Soccer Team blanked the host St. Vincent-St. Mary Fighting Irish 4-0 in
the season opener Saturday Night.
Five different Leopards scored during the contest. They included Hannah Baughman, Maddie Berkebile, Megan Chatelain, Jenny Hamsher, and Brianna Horton. Baughman also had a pair of assists and both Horton & Hamsher added an assist each.
The game remained scoreless through the first 28 minutes before Louisville scored twice in the final 11:50 of the first half. The Lady Leopards would continue to build upon their lead in the second half by adding three more goals.
Louisville out-shot St. Vincent-St. Mary 24-6 for the contest. Celia Keefe and Kenzie Brown combined for the shutout in goal.
“It was a great overall team performance, our defense showed great determination to maintain the shutout,” New Lady Leopards Head Coach Nic Ugrin said of his team’s performance in his debut at the helm. “I was very pleased with the teamwork & chemistry of the team. Team chemistry between the girls is growing each day.”
This marks the sixth time the Lady Leopards have shutout their opponent on opening night since their inception in 2003. It is also the first time since they won at North Canton 1-0 on August 21, 2013.
That game at Hoover was also the last time Louisville won a season opener. The Leopards are now 10-3-1 on opening day, which includes a 4-3 record when opening up the season on the road.

This was the first ever meeting between the two teams in the regular season. The Irish defeated the Leopards 3-1 in a scrimmage at Louisville last season. These Leopards flipped the script on SVSM in a big way Saturday Night.
UP NEXT: The Lady Leopards will next travel to Don Scott Field to challenge the host Canton McKinley Bulldogs on Monday, August 22 at 7:00 PM.
