Ganser, Adams Go 1-2 as Louisville Dominates East Canton Invitational – Boys Cross Country
Louisville 23 (1st Out of 6)
<<< Previous Riverside Kickoff Classic | Boys Cross Country Schedule | Next Wooster Invitational >>>
The Louisville Leopards Boys Cross Country Team competed at the annual East Canton Invitational Wednesday Evening on the campus of East Canton High School. Louisville finished with all five scoring runners in the top 9 en route to capturing the East Canton Invitational Boys Large Division Team Title for the fourth consecutive year.
Ganser & Adams Finish 1-2 for 2nd Straight Year
Leopard senior Bobby Ganser was the East Canton Invitational individual champion for the second straight year. He finished with a time of 16:25.4 just 5.4 seconds ahead of fellow Louisville senior Colby Adams who was the individual runner-up. This is the second straight year that Ganser and Adams have finished 1-2 at the East Canton Invite. Ganser was also runner-up only to teammate Miklos Hendricks (Class of 2020) in this race in 2019 and placed fourth at East Canton his freshman year in 2018.
Adams took individual runner-up for his second straight meet in a span of five calendar days. He clocked an LHS best time of 15:53.61 late Saturday Night at the Riverside Kickoff Classic. Adams recorded a time of 16:30.8 at Wednesday’s meet to finish one second ahead of Minerva’s Connor Shingleton (16:31.8) who claimed third. Adams improved upon his time from last year’s East Canton Invitational (16:53.3) by 22.5 seconds. He has finished in the top seven individually in each of his four seasons representing the Leopards at East Canton.
Leopards Finish with 5 in the Top 9
Louisville would finish with five runners in the top 9 in posting their lowest point total since finishing with 20 at the 2019 East Canton Invitational. The Leopards took the top four spots that year.
Seniors Owen Pukys (17:12.5), Stephen Ulrich (17:23.5), and Sam Chlebeck (17:46.7) all finished under the eighteen minute mark to round out the Louisville scoring. Pukys improved upon his 8th place finish at East Canton a year ago by capturing 4th. Urlich also came in 7th and Chlebeck claimed 9th for his second straight year at the East Canton Invitational.
Louisville Displays Usual Depth Under Sudomir
As has been typical under 18-year head coach Bob Sudomir, the Leopards lack little when it comes to depth. Outside of the scoring, sophomores Grant Brown (18:07.8) and Zan Keister (19:20.9) also placed 11th and 24th respectively to round out the team’s top seven.
Louisville also ran a number of other runners including sophomores Austin Beck (36th) and Tyrus Pinion (42nd) who finished in the top half of the field of 85. Other LHS runners included junior Gabe Nunez (61st), junior Cayman Smith (64th), senior Riley Nieschwitz (65th), and sophomore Nathan Huff (69th).
MIDDLE SCHOOL BOYS: Leopards Place 2nd Out of 6 Teams
MIDDLE SCHOOL GIRLS: Leopards Place 2nd Out of 8 Teams. 8th Grader Kylah Meyer took 1st individually with a time of 12:32.3.
UP NEXT: The Leopards Boys Cross Country Team will next compete at the Wooster Invitational on Saturday, September 11. The boys race is slated for 9:30 AM from Wooster High School.
