Louisville Explodes for Team Record 33 Runs
The Lady Leopards jumped out to a 6-0 lead before recording an out and batted around the lineup twice in erupting for 14 runs in the opening inning. The 14 runs mark the most ever in a first inning and second-most in any inning in team history. Last year’s team scored 15 runs in the seventh inning during a 23-5 victory over St. Vincent-St. Mary during the Duhon Tournament at Genshaft Park.
Louisville continued its offensive barrage, scoring in every inning—including a 12-run fourth.
By the game’s end, the Leopards had shattered the all-time program record for most runs in a single game. Their 33-run explosion broke the previous mark of 29 runs scored in a 29-0 shutout over Canton Timken on April 1, 1998. It also surpasses the previous tournament record of 25 runs scored in wins of 25-0 over Akron Ellet in 2019 and 25-3 over Green in 2013.
Louisville finished with 20 hits, drew 12 walks, and reached base via error or hit-by-pitch 10 additional times. In an act of sportsmanship, they also intentionally left base early four times.
Campbell Breaks Home Run Record in Rout
Addy Campbell etched her name into the Louisville record books by blasting her 13th home run of the season—breaking the previous single-season record of 12 set by Matti Benson in 2022. Campbell finished 2-for-2 with 6 RBIs, including that two-out, three-run homer to dead center in the fourth inning that also broke the team single-game runs record in the process.
Campbell has now homered six times over her last six games. The Lady Leopards have hit 33 homers as a team this year, tying them with the 2015 team for second most all-time only behind the 2019 state championship team.
Mongiardo and Sirohman Score Record 6 Runs Each
Anna Sirohman finished 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles, 4 RBIs, and scored a team record 6 runs. Olivia Mongiardo also scored 6 times to match that new record, thrice as a courtesy runner and thrice after walking.
The previous mark was held by Kaycee Ollis who crossed the plate five times during Louisville’s sectional final win over Akron Ellet in 2019.
Griffith and Miller Have Big Nights at the Dish
Bailee Griffith went 3-for-4 with a double and 5 RBIs. Starting pitcher Katelynn Miller helped her own cause at the plate going 4-for-6 with a double and 3 RBIs.
Ten different Lady Leopards recorded hits, ten drove in runs, and eleven scored. Destiny Hanze also had a multi-hit game going 2-for-5 and driving in four runs, Shae O’Neill went 1-for-2 with 2 RBIs, and Kaitlin Twinem had an RBI triple.
Miller Tosses No-Hitter, Ties Strikeout Record
Miller was electric in the circle, delivering a five-inning no-hitter—only the third postseason no-hitter in Louisville softball history. The only other two were thrown by Sarah Cantley during the Leopards’ 2019 state championship run.
Miller also matched Cantley’s team single-game strikeout record by fanning 15 Bearcat batters. Cantley struck out 15 batters in a 9-inning game at Minerva in 2016 and in a 7-inning game against Dover in 2017. Cantley also struck out 14 batters in two separate 5-inning games, the first against Massillon in 2017 and the second against Canton South in 2018.
Miller’s lone blemishes were three walks, as she retired 15 of the 18 batters she faced by strikeout. Zia Jackson was the only Bearcat to enter scoring position after walking and stealing second in the second inning. Miller didn’t allow a Bedford hitter to make contact until Angelina Parrish fouled off a 2-0 pitch in the fifth. She recorded nine strikeouts swinging and six looking.
Louisville Continues Home Tournament Win Streak
The Lady Leopards have now won 21-consecutive tournament games at home, a streak that started in 2001. Louisville is now 24-4 at home in the postseason all-time and holds a 46-38 mark in tournament games overall.
The Lady Leopards will look to continue that home tournament win streak when they host their first ever district tournament game at West Main Vet Clinic Field Tuesday against the Copley Indians.
