The Louisville Leopards Girls Soccer team shutout the Lake Blue Streaks 2-0 Monday Night at Blue Streaks Stadium. With the victory, Louisville improves to 4-3-1 on the season.
Sophomore goalkeeper Amelia Henderhan recorded her 7th career shutout and rewrote the Lady Leopards record book in terms of saves recorded. Henderhan turned away a Blue Streaks penalty kick with 4:37 to go to preserve the shutout and record her 17th save of the night. With that save she surpassed the team career record of 265 previously held by Mackenzie Brown (2015-18). In the first half, Henderhan also shattered her own team record of 126 saves in a single season which she set as a freshman. She now has 140 saves on the year and 266 total saves overall, not even halfway through her varsity career.
While Henderhan kept Lake at bay, the Louisville offense went to work. The combination of freshman Matti Benson and junior Morgan Keelan used their speed to connect on goals in each half to lead the Lady Leopards attack. The pair of goals gives Keelan a team leading 9 for the season. The two assists provided by Benson now up her total to 3 for year, tying her with junior Morgan Mayle for the team lead.
Lake out-shot Louisville for the contest 17-9 and held a 5-1 edge in corner kicks. The Leopards defense did an excellent job of limiting Blue Streak opportunities, and if they got through, Henderhan was there to turn them away every time. Louisville in return made the most of their opportunities on the offensive end.
This was the Leopards first win over the Blue Streaks since a 3-1 victory at Lake on October 11, 2004. Louisville tied Lake in 4 matchups from 2013-2017, but was never quite able to put them away for a victory. Not counting ties, the Lady Streaks had won 12 straight over the Lady Leopards including 6 of the past 7 matches in the series at Lake. Louisville now holds a 2-12-4 record against the Blue Streaks all-time dating back to 2004, which includes a 2-7-1 record in road games at Lake.
