Aljancic 2-Run Homer Kickstarts Rally
The Grizzlies built a 4-0 advantage through the first two innings of play and remained in the driver’s seat until the Leopards began to rally in the bottom of the fourth. Senior first baseman Ryan Aljancic brought Louisville to life with a 2-run home run to center field to cut the Wadsworth deficit in half at 4-2. Senior second baseman Broc Pickens singled to start the inning and scored via Aljancic’s team-leading second fence-clearing blast of the season.
Gotshall 2-Run Double Completes Rally
Aljancic would get the Leopards one run closer in the bottom of the fifth. Junior right fielder Zack Seaman, senior shortstop JT Popick, and Pickens all singled to load the bases. Aljancic grounded out to short in the next at-bat which brought home Seaman from third to trim the disadvantage to 4-3.
Senior catcher Kaedin Gotshall followed and lined a 1-1 pitch to centerfield for a 2-out, 2-run double scoring the tying run in Popick and the go-ahead run in Pickens to put Louisville in front 5-4.
Warner Goes the Distance for 3rd Win
Leopards junior starting pitcher Anthony Warner retired the side in the sixth and struck out the side in the seventh inning to preserve the Louisville victory. Warner pitched a complete game, gave up only 1 earned run on 6 hits, and struck out 7 en rout to improving to 3-0 on the mound for the season.
The Leopards out-hit the Grizzlies 10-6 and were led by Popick who finished 3-for-4 at the top of the lineup. Pickens also went 2-for-3 as one of seven Louisville batters who recorded a hit during the contest. Third baseman Matt Thompson also finished 2-for-3 at the plate to account for one-third of Wadsworth’s hits.
Wadsworth Triples Build 4-0 Cushion
Cleanup hitter catcher Conner Stewart got the Grizzlies on the board first with a 2-run triple in the top of the first inning that plated first baseman Nolan Kubilus and shortstop Peter Jelenic. Stewart also scored via an error on the same play to put the Grizzlies in front 3-0.
Wadsworth tacked on to their lead with a similar play in the second inning. Right fielder Aaron Keating led off the frame with a triple to center field and then scored on an error during the same play to put WHS ahead 4-0.
