Jenny Can Cleaning AdThe Louisville Leopards Girls Varsity Basketball Team fell to the visiting Perry Panthers 77-68 in their season opener Monday Night at Louisville High School.

Senior Paige Cole and freshman Brooke Haren both scored a team-high 19 points to lead the Lady Leopards. Haren stormed out of the gate with 14 first half points and also finished with 3 assists in her varsity debut. Cole would score 15 of her 19 points in the second half. She also had team-highs of 5 assists and 3 steals to go along with 7 rebounds to round out an impressive stat line. 

Senior Sherilynn Mullett poured in 17 points and finished with a team best 8 rebounds for Louisville. Junior Kelsey Adelman also scored 7 points and pulled down 6 boards. 


Louisville Leads Big Early On

My Fit Life Personal Trainer AdThe Lady Leopards roared to a 14-6 advantage after the first quarter. They then pulled out to their biggest lead of the contest at 29-13 with 3:10 left before halftime. 

Perry answered with an explosive 15-3 run over the next three minutes to cut the deficit to 32-28. Mia Guscoff hit home 3 three-pointers and scored 11 points in the second quarter to lead the Lady Panthers rally. Louisville countered with Mullett going hard to the lane for a bucket while drawing a foul. She converted the traditional three-point play from the line to put LHS ahead 35-28 at the half.


Leopards Double Digit Lead Evaporates

The Leopards extended their advantage to double digits after outscoring the Panthers 23-20 in the third quarter. Six different Louisville players scored in the period led by Cole’s 8 points in the quarter. Junior Maddie Dyer also dished out 4 of her team leading 5 assists in the frame as LHS took a 58-48 lead into the the final stanza.

Perry opened the fourth quarter on a 16-6 run to knot the game at 64-64. Meredith Randulic made a pair of three-pointers during the run as she finished with 10 of her game-high 21 points in the fourth. Cole answered on the other end for Louisville with her second three-pointer of the contest with 3:04 remaining to put the Leopards in front 67-64. 


Panthers Score 11 Unanswered to Clinch Contest

Samantha's Grill AdLHS would not score from the floor for the remainder of the game. The Lady Panthers strung together a 13-1 run which included scoring 11 unanswered points to end the contest. Guscoff hit a three-pointer from the top of the key with a little over two minutes to play to give Perry their first lead of the night at 69-68. Louisville was unable to connect on a pair of shots on their ensuing possession and then turned the ball over on their next three possessions.

The Panthers made them pay each time. The most devastating nail in the coffin came when Guscoff buried her fifth three-pointer of the game from the left corner to put Perry ahead 76-68 with 44 seconds to play. She would finish with 10 of her game-high 21 points in the final period. Kailee Wilson also finished in double figures with 7 of her 12 points coming in the fourth as well.


Louisville-Perry All-Time Series

The Leopards trail the all-time series 17-22, but the series is dead even at 5-5 in their past 10 meetings. Perry also holds a 10-9 edge in games played at Louisville in the series. The 145 points scored in Monday’s contest is the most all-time in the 39 meetings between these two squads.
