Roberts 2-Run Homer Gives Leopards the Lead

Lingenhoel Group - Arden and Lisa Lingenhoel - Cutler Real Estate AdHoover got on the board first in the opening frame when senior designated hitter Drew Stangelo’s sacrifice fly scored junior left fielder/shortstop Mason Ashby from third. An error in the next at-bat put two Vikings aboard with just one out. However, Louisville freshman pitcher Bryce Graziani got out of the jam by striking out the final two North Canton batters who each watched strike three.

Jenny Can Cleaning AdJunior shortstop Andrew Corona led off the bottom of the first with a double to left field. Senior centerfielder Charlie Roberts followed by smashing a 1-1 pitch over the left field fence for a 2-run homer. The home run was the first of Roberts’ varsity career and it put the Leopards in front 2-1.

Roberts also doubled to left field in his next at-bat to lead off the bottom of the third. Two pitches later, senior second baseman Connor Morley delivered an RBI single to center field that allowed Roberts to score from second to make it a 3-1 Louisville advantage.


Ashby Doubles Puts Vikings in Front

Equitable Advisors - Bryce MathieJunior right fielder Carson Dyrlund doubled to lead off the Viking fourth. He then advanced to third on a passed ball and proceeded to score on a wild pitch for Hoover’s second run of the contest. On the next pitch, sophomore shortstop/pitcher Zach Braucher singled home senior third baseman Jack McKelley to tie the game at 3-3.

Two batters later, Ashby hit a line drive double to left field that scored both Braucher and senior center fielder AJ Caggiano after an error to put Hoover ahead 5-3. Ashby would finish 3-for-4 to lead the Vikings at the plate.


Each Team Adds A Run

The Leopards cut the Hoover lead to 5-4 on senior designated hitter Caleb Harsh’s sacrifice fly to center field in the bottom of the fourth. Sophomore third baseman Zach Root, who led off the inning with a walk, scored from third on the play.

The Vikings matched that run in the top of the seventh when Stangelo scored from third on a balk. Stangelo walked to open the inning, advanced to second on another walk, and journeyed to third on a fielder’s choice before scoring to make it 6-4 Hoover.

Braucher worked a 1-2-3 seventh inning to earn the save for the Vikings. He pitched 2.1 innings and struck out 3. Senior pitcher Logan Welsted was credited with the win on the mound.

Graziani struck out 6 in a losing effort for Louisville. Sophomore pitcher Carter Deem also struck out 2 batters in 3 innings of relief for LHS.

UP NEXT: The Louisville Baseball Team will next host the Perry Panthers on Saturday, April 15. Game time is set for 1:00 PM from Andy Aljancic Field. JV will be on the road and freshman will host Perry at the same time.
