Baker Outscores the Dukes Alone with Career-High 31

West Main Vet Clinic AdSenior star Maggie Baker shined brightest on Senior Night by exploding for a career-high 31 points to lead the Lady Leopards. Marlington tried to rough Baker up early, but she remained unfazed. Baker was a menace on the defensive end, forcing turnovers and igniting fast-breaks all night. She was fouled hard into the padding behind the end line twice early in the game, then took another hard foul under the hoop to earn her third trip to the line in the first quarter.

With the Dukes making things physical inside, Baker started cooking outside the perimeter. Fellow senior Mabel Kiko delivered a jump pass to Baker in the left corner and she buried it with 1:25 left in the opening quarter. On the next possession, Baker stood at the top of the key looking for an open teammate. When none emerged, she fired away and canned a three from several feet beyond the arc to put Louisville ahead 12-4 in the final minute of the first quarter. Baker then hit another three-pointer in the second quarter and have 15 by halftime as the Lady Leopards took a 34-16 lead into the locker room.

Baker would pour in 16 more points in the second half. She made two more three-pointers in the fourth quarter, where she matched her first quarter total with 10 points. With under three minutes to play, Baker looked to crack the thirty-point mark. She missed a three-pointer and Marlington secured the rebound. Just seconds later, Baker stole a pass in the backcourt and took it to the basket to become just the fourth known player in program history to score 30 or more points in a single game.
