Lady Leopards Outlast Rams 3-2 in Ten Innings to Advance to State Championship – Softball

The Louisville Leopards Softball Team edged the Mansfield Madison Comprehensive Rams 3-2 in ten innings in the DIII State Semifinals on a hot morning/early afternoon game at Akron Firestone Stadium. With their seventh straight victory, Louisville improves to 18-13 on the season and advances to play the Bloom-Carroll Bulldogs in the DIII State Championship game on Saturday, June 6 at 8:00 PM at Akron Firestone Stadium.

Both teams were strong in the circle on Friday, but Louisville Varsity Leopards defeated Madison Comprehensive Varsity Rams 3-2. Katelynn Miller started the game for Louisville Varsity Leopards and recorded 30 outs.
Miller struck out 15 batters on the day. The starter also gave up eight hits and two runs over 10 innings while walking three.
Louisville Varsity Leopards got on the board in the first inning after Anna Sirohman hit a solo home run to center field.
Makena Berkshire singled down the right field line, which helped Madison Comprehensive Varsity Rams tie the game at one in the bottom of the fourth.
In the top of the tenth, Louisville Varsity Leopards broke up the tie when Caliyah Clapper induced Taylor Thompson to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored. Then a ground out by Maggie Baker followed to extend the lead to 3-1.
Clapper started in the circle for Madison Comprehensive Varsity Rams. The hurler allowed seven hits and three runs over 10 innings, striking out eight and walking one.
Kaitlin Twinem and Sirohman each collected two hits for Louisville Varsity Leopards. Thompson, Baker, and Sirohman each drove in one run for Louisville Varsity Leopards.
Izzy Wamsley led Madison Comprehensive Varsity Rams with three hits in five at bats from the leadoff position. Campbell Kiser and Berkshire each drove in one run for Madison Comprehensive Varsity Rams. Chloe Jeffers collected two hits for Madison Comprehensive Varsity Rams in five at bats. Madison Comprehensive Varsity Rams were sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Sophie Lowe made the most plays with 12.
