Lady Leopards Fall to Bay 2-0 in Regional Semifinal, Finish 11-5-2 – Girls Soccer

The #22 seed Louisville Leopards were shutout by the #3 seed Bay Village Bay Rockets 2-0 Tuesday Night in the DIII, Region 9 Semifinals held at Boardman’s Spartan Stadium. With the loss, Louisville ends the deepest run its ever made in the tournament with a final overall record of 11-5-2.
Holmes Breaks the Ice for Bay
The Rockets struck first when Maya Holmes found the back of the net putting Bay Village up 1-0 with 10:48 remaining before halftime.
The Leopards struggled to create scoring opportunities, but goalkeeper Tristyn Edgein kept Louisville in contention by making several clutch saves to prevent further damage before halftime. LHS trailed just 1-0 at the break despite being out-shot 5-1 in the first half.
Aschenbrener Extends Rocket Lead to 2-0
Bay Village intensified its offensive pressure in the second half looking to add to their advantage. The Rockets clanged two shots off the post during the first nine minutes of the second half, but their lead remained 1-0.
Bay finally extended their lead in the 40th minute when Emery Aschenbrener pushed across the Rockets’ second goal. That made it 2-0 BHS with 20:10 remaining in the contest.
Bay Remains Undefeated
Bay Village Bay has now won 16 consecutive matches and remains unbeaten at 19-0-2 on the season. The Rockets have now outscored their opposition 121-7 this season, which includes a 19-0 advantage in the tournament. Bay Village Bay has registered a shutout in their last 6 matches and has recorded 15 shutouts on the season overall.
The Rockets will next take on the #9 seed Avon Lake Shoremen in the DIII, Region 9 Regional Championship held at Tallmadge’s Larry Bagnoli Stadium on Saturday, November 2 at Noon.
Bay Village Bay is the 75th unique opponent the Lady Leopards have challenged in their history and the 19th different postseason foe they’ve encountered all-time.
Lady Leopards Historic Run Comes to an End
Louisville is now 13-22 in the postseason all-time, which includes a 1-2 record in games played at neutral sites.
The Lady Leopards regional semifinal appearance is the furthest they have ever made it in the postseason as a program. Their previous deepest tournament runs never made it past the district semifinal stage.
