Louisville Blanked at Canfield 2-0 in AAC Opener – Boys Soccer

The Louisville Leopards Boys Varsity Soccer Team fell to the host Canfield Cardinals 2-0 Thursday night at Bob Dove Field in Louisville’s first-ever contest as a member of the All-American Conference.
Canfield scored once in each half and kept the Leopards off the board to remain unbeaten at 5-0 overall and 1-0 in conference play. Louisville suffered its first loss of the season and is now 2-1 overall with an 0-1 mark in the AAC.

Goodrich Free Kick Gives Cardinals First-Half Lead
Canfield broke the scoreless tie in the opening half on a long-range set piece by Luke Goodrich.
Goodrich lined up a free kick from 32 yards out and drove the ball into the net to give the Cardinals a 1-0 advantage. Canfield carried that one-goal lead into halftime as Louisville was unable to find an equalizer before the break.
Kerns Extends Canfield Lead in Second Half
The Cardinals doubled their advantage early in the second half on a combination between Jared Toporcer and Aidan Kerns.
Toporcer lifted a pass from the right side toward the center of the penalty area, where Kerns rose to meet it with a header. Kerns directed the ball into the back of the net to extend the Canfield lead to 2-0 in the 46th minute.
The Cardinals nearly added a third goal on the final sequence of the match. Toporcer put the ball into the net as time expired, but the apparent goal was waved off because the clock had already reached zero.
Canfield’s defense preserved the shutout the rest of the way to hand Louisville its first defeat of the 2026 campaign.
First Louisville-Canfield Meeting Since 2009
Thursday marked just the second all-time meeting between the Leopards and Cardinals and their first matchup in nearly 17 years.
The programs previously met at Canfield on October 15, 2009, when the Cardinals defeated Louisville 6-0. With Thursday’s victory, Canfield now leads the all-time series 2-0 and has outscored the Leopards 8-0 across the two meetings.
More significantly, the contest marked the beginning of a new era for Louisville Boys Soccer as the Leopards played their first match as a member of the All-American Conference.

The Louisville Leopards Boys JV Soccer Team opened All-American Conference play with a 1-0 road victory over the host Canfield Cardinals Thursday night at Bob Dove Field.
The two teams battled through a scoreless first half before Louisville finally broke through after the intermission.
Easton Petrovic set up Mason Overcasher for the game’s lone goal as Overcasher found the back of the net to put the Leopards ahead 1-0.
Goalkeeper Mason Ivey and the Louisville defense preserved the one-goal lead the rest of the way, completing the 1-0 shutout victory.
With the win, the Leopards improve to 4-1 overall and start AAC play at 1-0.
