Louisville 3, GlenOak 2
1985. Ronald Reagan was still president, the Bears were Super Bowl Champions, and Back to the Future was about to be the hit movie of the summer.
Now let’s travel forward in time to the present. Friday, April 13, 2012. Yes, on Friday the 13 the Louisville Leopards Boys Tennis made another streak disappear. They snapped a 15-game losing streak to host GlenOak with a 3-2 victory Friday evening. It was Louisville’s first victory over GlenOak in boys tennis since May 9, 1985.
The turning point came in the singles match between Louisville’s Anthony Hoover and GlenOak’s Brad Tenenbaum. Hoover ended up gutting out a 7-6 victory in the first set after winning the tiebreak 7-4. The second set was also evenly contested as Tenenbaum also won 7-6 by winning the tiebreak by a 7-3 tally. Hoover took care of business in the final set earning a 6-2 win to take the match.
Louisville dominated both doubles matches to push Louisville to their 3-2 victory. Vince Burwell and Daniel Thompson won their match in straight bagels (6-0, 6-0). Michael Thomas and Ryan Shepherd won their doubles match in straight sets (6-1, 6-3) as well.
Furthermore, the JV squad also defeated GlenOak 2-1. Jakob Brown won his singles match 9-8 and Travis Henderson & Nick Knebl won their doubles match 8-0. The Louisville Boys Tennis program continues to be on the up and up as both the present and future Leopards varsity players continue to shine.
EDITOR’S NOTE: Leopard Nation please keep the GlenOak community in your thoughts and prayers as they lost a school Guidance counselor to a tragic accident earlier this week.
