Louisville 6, Central Catholic 1

The Louisville Leopards Boys Soccer team played some beautiful soccer Thursday evening at Louisville Leopards Stadium.  The result was a 6-1 win over the Canton Central Catholic Crusaders.

Jerry Julian scored the first goal of the game with his first goal of the season.  Harrison Raub setup the goal with a pass to the charging Julian on the right side of the penalty box to give the Leps the early lead.  However, Central Catholic answered back four minutes later with a goal of their own to knot the game at 1-1.

Louisville took over from there netting 3 more goals before the first half ended.  A deflected Riley Groves corner kick found the feet of Baker who booted it home Beatty's Sports Grey Louisville Athletics T-Shirtto give the Leps a 2-1 advantage at the 18:24 mark.  Then the pair combined for what could be the top goal of the season less than three minutes later.  Groves dribbled down the left sideline and pooched a perfect pass into the goal box where Baker headed it into the top right corner of the net.  The esteemed Baker screamed in celebration at Groves after the goal that gave Louisville a 3-1 lead.  Baker then delivered his own assist to Raub going right to left with two minutes to go in the half to give the Leopards a commanding three goal advantage at the break.

Louisville’s defense kept Central scoreless in the second half.  Goalie Austin Terra had several tremendous saves including a one-on-one save in the goal box during the 46th minute.  Terra also combined with Groves to put out another Crusader scoring threat in the 57th minute.  Terra batted away a possible goal and Groves headed the rebounded Central shot over the net.  The ensuing corner kick fluttered off a Crusader and gave the Leopards a goal kick.

Louisville then hammered home their point with two additional goals by Groves.  He one-timed the first goal off a perfect bloop pass from Julian going right to left.  His second goal came off a rebounded shot to the left of the goal.  The second goal was setup by another beautiful pass by Julian into the goal box to Raub.  Raub launched a rocket that deflected off the Crusader goalie before Groves booted it home.

The win gives Louisville a 2-1 series lead over Central Catholic all-time and avenges their 4-3 loss to them last season.  Louisville is now 3-4 on the season after finishing with just 2 regular season wins in all of 2011.
