Lady Leps Pounce on Perry in Tournament Preview

Louisville 5, Perry 1

Mackenzie Storlie scored two quick first half goals before Rachel Baughman finished out the night with a Hat Trick as the Lady Leps defeated the Perry Panthers 5-1 at Louisville Leopards Stadium Monday night.

Storlie scored her first goal just 93 seconds into the contest.  She broke away from the pack and buried the ball into the top left corner of the net.  About five minutes later, a corner kick went to Tara Stevens who lobbed a pass a few feet away from the net.  Storlie went backwards toward the ball to avoid a front first collision with the goalie, but the ball still went off of Storlie and into the net to give the Leps a 2-0 lead.

The next Leopards goal was set up by a deep pass from midfield by Kayla Shankel.  Storlie deflected the pass over to Baughman who used some fancy footwork to get open before plastering the ball into the left side of the net just past the goalie.

A give-and-go play from Baughman to Storlie back to Baughman made it 4-0 Louisville.  Baughman snuck the ball into the left side of the net from 27 yards away fooling most in attendance.  Finally, after several seconds of confusion, the referees realized the ball was in the back of the net.

After halftime, Perry struck first in the second half with a goal of their own.  However, the Lady Leps got it right back minutes later.  Liz Stefanik tried to pass the ball into the penalty box, but a Perry defender deflected it.  The deflection ended up going right to the feet of Baughman who dribbled twice and sent the ball into its rightful place.  It was 5-1 Leps and Louisville ran out the final 25:29 to secure a their eight victory of the season.

Monday’s meeting  is only round one though.  The Lady Leps found out Sunday at the draw that they were going to play host to the Panthers in the Sectional Semifinals on Tuesday, October 18 at 7:00 PM.  The winner of that contest will play the Fitch Falcons at Austintown on Saturday, October 22 at 7:00 PM.  The Lady Leps are now 3-2-1 against the Panthers all-time.

NEXT UP: The Lady Leopards will host the Alliance Aviators on Wednesday, October 12 at Louisville Leopards Stadium.  There will be no JV contest and Varsity will start at 7:00 PM.  Louisville is 2-4-1 against Alliance all-time with the Aviators winning the most recent meeting 3-0 back on September 15, 2010.
