Lady Leps Can Cardinals 58-47

Louisville Canfield Storlie

Louisville 58, Canfield 47

Brianna Libertore led the Lady Leps with 15 points, while Mackenzie Storlie and Clara Lemmon also each poured in double figures during the Louisville Lady Leopards 58-47 win over the Canfield Cardinals Wednesday Night at the Louisville Gymnasium.

The Cardinals flexed their muscle early taking a 17-8 lead into the final minute of the first quarter.  But then the Lady Leopards showed just how explosive they could be by scoring the next 16 points.  Louisville closed the opening quarter getting buckets from Lemmon, Catelyn Radalia, an two free throws from Jordan Monnot.

Defensively the Lady Leps shut out the Cardinals for nearly five minutes, while continuing production on the offensive end in the second quarter.   Storlie hit back-to-back three-pointers to open up the scoring in the second frame before Libertore went to work in the paint scoring 6 of the next 8 Louisville points.

After taking a 28-19 lead, the Lady Leps hit a wall of their own as they failed to score in the final 3:28 of the first half.  Canfield took advantage by surmounting a 10-0 run which enabled them to take a 29-28 lead early on in the third quarter.  It would be their last.  The Lady Leps buckled down and started to press.  The Cardinals collapsed under the pressure and Louisville dominated the remainder of the quarter taking a 42-32 lead into the final period.

Canfield got within seven, but it was all academic at that point.  Louisville ran out the clock and capped off an impressive 58-47 over the Cardinals, the opposite semifinalist in the Alliance District last season.  The win marks Louisville’s 8th straight win over a non-conference opponent in the regular season and 7th straight regular season victory overall.
