The Lake Blue Streaks scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to take the lead and eventually defeated the Louisville Lady Leopards 5-2 in the DI Massillon District Semifinals at Massillon Community Park Monday evening.  Chandler Rice went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI’s and Emily Isla smashed 2 doubles to lead the Lady Leopards.

The Lady Leopards scored their first run ever in Division I District Tournament play in the opening inning of the contest.  Isla hit a deep drive that went for a double and then Rice delivered a 2-out single to center to score Isla from second.

The pair would later experience deja vu in the third inning.  Isla again lifted a long drive to center that one-hopped off the fence.  She was then replaced for courtesy runner Brooke Cox.  Two batters later, Rice again delivered a grounder through the hole in center that allowed Cox to score easily and tie the game at 2-2.

In the circle, Brittany Flanigan pitched the entire game for the Leopards, struck out 6, and gave up 5 runs on 6 hits.  However, none of the runs she gave up were earned.

Lake took advantage of four Leopard errors that essentially led to all of their runs for the evening.  Taylor Libby Beatty's Sports Spring Sports Logos Softballdelivered a 2-run blow in the top of the third that allowed Kari Snyder and Mata to score.  Then in the top of the seventh, Macey Harder, Katelyn King, and Grace Hutcherson each made contact to deliver three runs in three consecutive at-bats to give the Blue Streaks a seemingly insurmountable 5-2 advantage.

Louisville had no answer offensively in the bottom of the seventh and thus the Lady Leopards storybook season came to a close.  Lake will move on to play Hoover in the District Finals on Tuesday.

The ride back to Louisville from Massillon seemed like ages, while the first twenty-eight games of the 25-4 Lady Leopards season seemed just like seconds.  But, these girls have nothing to be ashamed of.  The past few seasons of Lady Leopards softball have been undoubtedly the best in team history and there is no end in sight of talented girls on the diamond at Louisville.  Their record-breaking, scoreboard smashing, NBC & DI Sectional Championship runs will never be forgotten.  Thank You Lady Leps!
