Louisville 59, GlenOak 57, OT

Jordan Monnot led Louisville with 18 points and scored the Leopards only overtime field goal during their 59-57 win at GlenOak Saturday.  Clara Lemmon and Hollyann Mullett also added 12 point each to help Louisville to improve to 1-0.

But long before the celebration at the end of overtime, the Lady Leps found themselves in a hole early.  The Eagles flew out to an 11-2 advantage just 2:33 into the opening quarter.  Methodically, Louisville closed the quarter on a 10-3 run to trim the lead to 14-12.  Both Monnot and Mullett poured in 6 points each to account for all the Lady Leps points.

Great passing by the Louisville offense helped them roll to a 29-22 advantage with 2:14 remaining in the half.  Clara Lemmon dropped home four baskets and Monnot tallied 7 of her 13 first half Beatty's Winter Hoodiespoints in the second quarter.  Hannah Lemmon, Emily Nees, and Chandler Rice all dished out assists to help generate the Louisville advantage.  However, GlenOak scored the final 7 points of the half to tie the game at 29-29 going into the break.

Like the second quarter, Louisville put up 17 more points in the third quarter.  Five different Lady Leopards scored in the frame led by Nees’ 5 points.  Louisville built a 9-point lead, but GlenOak seized momentum when A. Church-Green hit a buzzer beater to end the quarter.

In the fourth, the Golden Eagles chipped away little by little but were never able to capture the lead from the Leopards.  Louisville looked to have sealed the game when Clara Lemmon’s second double bonus free throw rung true to make it 53-49 with 41.5 remaining in regulation.  However, E. Evans was fouled while shooting a three-pointer and she made 2 out of 3 free throws to cut the deficit to 53-51.  In the waning seconds Evans also made a game-tying layup after L. Kohler stole away an inbound pass to make it 53-53.  Evans finished the night with a game-high 19 points and more importantly helped GlenOak force the first Louisville Girls Basketball overtime since 2004.

In the extra period, the teams exchanged leads three times.  The final lead change came when Monnot drove to the basket for a lay-in that gave Louisville a 56-55 lead with 2:22 remaining.  Down the stretch Mullett hit two clutch free throws and Monnot hit the front end of another pair of freebies to help the Leopards pull ahead by a slim 59-57 margin.  Mullett was a perfect 8 of 8 from the charity stride on the afternoon and Louisville shot 79% from the line as a team.  Although Monnot missed her second free throw with 4.1 seconds remaining, this also proved to be clutch as the ball deflected off the rim and bounced to the ground to the left of the lane causing precious time to tick away.  One last one-handed half court heave by the Golden Eagles missed its mark and the Lady Leopards were victorious over GlenOak for the third straight season.

Louisville outscored GlenOak 14-2 in the second quarter to pull ahead to a 26-14 advantage at halftime.  The Eagles soared back to cut the deficit to as little as four, but the Leopards never gave up their advantage.
