The Louisville Leopards Girls Varsity Basketball Team defeated the visiting Howland Tigers 54-41 Thursday Night at Louisville High School. With their second straight victory, Louisville evens its record at 2-2 on the season.

Haren Scores 21 to Lead Louisville
Junior Brooke Haren scored a team high 21 points to lead the Lady Leopards. She scored 11 of Louisville’s 13 first quarter points before being limited to just 2 points during the middle periods. However, Haren would finish strong leading the Leopards with 8 points in the fourth quarter to help LHS clinch the double-digit victory.
Sophomore Courtney Barwick and senior Taryn Miglich both hit a team leading 3 three-pointers and finished with 11 points each. Barwick made a pair of three-pointers and led all Louisville scorers in the second quarter as the Leopards rallied from a first quarter deficit to tie the game at 25-25 by halftime. Miglich scored all 11 of her points in the third, a quarter in which Louisville outscored Howland 19-10 to take command of the contest.
Massucci Drops In Game High 25 for Howland
Junior Alyssa Massucci made 3 three-pointers and scored a game high 25 points to lead the Lady Tigers. Massucci scored all 16 of Howland’s points in the opening quarter, but was held to just 9 points the rest of the game by the Lady Leopards defense.
Other top scorers for the Lady Tigers included junior power forward Mia Barrish with 6 and junior Jessie DeSalvo who added 4.
Lady Leopards Snap Losing Streak Vs. Tigers
The victory snaps Louisville’s three-game losing streak when facing Howland. The Lady Tigers defeated the Leopards three times in the past two seasons prior to Thursday Night’s result. Howland still holds a 5-2 edge head-to-head, but the series is now an even 2-2 when the two teams have faced off at Louisville High School.

Couto Ties McCully for Coach Victories
Louisville Leopards Head Coach Jeff Couto earned his 144th career coaching victory with Thursday’s win over Howland. The win ties him with former head coach Garee McCully for the second most coaching victories in program history.
