Quick Recap
Early Strike by Green Sets the Tone
The Bulldogs wasted no time getting on the scoreboard. After a quick three-and-out by Louisville, Green capitalized on their first possession when quarterback Tyson Hunka connected with Antonio Martin for a 53-yard touchdown pass just 2:49 into the game. The big play came on the second play of the drive and gave Green an early 7-0 lead after Logan Noirot’s extra point kick.
Louisville struggled to generate momentum in the first quarter. After an interception by Kolton Loy set the Leopards up with excellent field position at the Green 35-yard line, the drive stalled on fourth down, and Green regained possession. The Bulldogs’ defense stifled Louisville’s offense throughout the game, forcing them to punt multiple times.
Special Teams Dominate for Green
The second quarter was a defensive battle, with neither team able to put points on the board. However, the game broke open immediately after halftime. Green’s Evan Reed took the opening kickoff of the second half 88 yards to the house, extending the Bulldogs’ lead to 14-0 just 12 seconds into the third quarter.
Louisville’s defense showed some fight, highlighted by a key sack by Gabe Stoffer that ended one of Green’s drives. However, the Leopards’ offense couldn’t capitalize, and Green’s defense continued to frustrate them.
Bulldogs Pull Away in the Fourth
Green sealed the game in the fourth quarter with two more scores. Evan Reed capped off a methodical 10-play, 52-yard drive with a 3-yard touchdown run, giving Green a commanding 21-0 lead with just under three minutes left. Moments later, the Bulldogs’ defense got in on the action when Dario Lombardi recovered a fumble in the Louisville end zone for the final score of the night, making it 28-0 after Noirot’s fourth extra point.
Leopards Struggle on Offense
Louisville’s offense could not find a rhythm, managing just 120 total yards on 57 plays. The Leopards were held to only 33 passing yards and 87 rushing yards, struggling to move the ball against Green’s stout defense. Quarterback Tate Aljancic completed 8 of 13 passes for 22 yards, while running back Owen DiMarzio led the team in rushing with 30 yards on 12 carries. Despite multiple opportunities in the first half, Louisville’s drives repeatedly stalled, and they were unable to convert on key third and fourth downs.
Bright Spots for Louisville
On special teams, Owen Wilson provided a spark with a 48-yard kickoff return early in the third quarter, setting Louisville up in Green territory. However, the Bulldogs’ defense held firm, and the Leopards could not convert their excellent field position into points.
Defensively, Louisville had its moments, including two interceptions—one by Kolton Loy in the first quarter and another by Luke Seaman in the fourth. Cooper Rice also forced a fumble in the second quarter, which was recovered by Jacob Galbraith. However, the Leopards were unable to turn these takeaways into points.
Louisville Vs. Green All-Time Series
The Leopards have now lost 3 of their last 4 matchups against the Bulldogs. Louisville is now 3-3 against Green all-time, which includes a 2-1 record when playing at Louisville Leopards Stadium in the series.
The 28 points is the lowest combined score of any game in the series eclipsing the 49 combined total from last season. The shutout is the first in the series as the Bulldogs have now shutout their last two opponents on the road. They also defeated GlenOak 35-0 last week. Green now holds a 6-2 overall record on the season.
