Benson Homer Puts Louisville Ahead in 1st

Two Leopard errors allowed the Golden Eagles to snatch a 1-0 lead when first baseman Karlie Boron scored in the top of the first.

Louisville answered in the bottom half of the frame when sophomore shortstop Matti Benson smashed a two-run home run to center field to give the Leopards what would be their only lead of the contest at 2-1. Sophomore third baseman Kenzi Denzer singled in the at-bat before and also scored on Benson’s roundtripper.

Benson has now homered four times in her last four games. She has gone yard nine times this season, all of which have occurred since April 20.

GlenOak Retakes Lead on Hall Grand Slam

My Fit Life Personal Trainer Side AdThe Golden Eagles answered with five runs in the top of the second inning to retake the lead. Four of the first five GlenOak batters singled to begin the inning, but it was another Louisville error that allowed first baseman Emma Borkowski to score the tying run.

With two outs, third baseman Ryleigh Hall hit a grand slam to center field to give the Lady Eagles a commanding 6-2 advantage.

Leopards Chip Away at Eagles Advantage

Lingenhoel Group - Arden and Lisa Lingenhoel - Cutler Real Estate AdThe Lady Leopards chipped away at the Golden Eagle lead with runs in three of the next four innings. In the bottom of the second, freshman left fielder Matti Adams singled, stole second and third, and eventually scored to trim the Louisville deficit to 6-3.

The Leopards tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the third. Senior first baseman Jenna Collins hit an RBI double to right field to bring home Denzer from second. In the following at-bat, junior second baseman Shelby Mayle singled home sophomore courtesy runner Paige Folk to shrink the GlenOak advantage to 6-5.

The Lady Eagles got a run back in the fourth inning. Center fielder Brooklyn Krum hit a solo home run on the first pitch of the inning to give GlenOak an insurance run that they would eventually need.

That’s because Mayle delivered another RBI hit on a two-out single in the bottom of the fifth inning. Denzer scored her third run of the game on the play and it got Louisville back to within 7-6.

Reemsnyder Earns Victory for GlenOak

Jenny Can Cleaning AdEagles starting pitcher Emma Reemsnyder retired the next six Lady Leopards in order after Mayle’s RBI single in the fifth. This included a 1-2-3 sixth inning and retiring the first two Louisville batters to begin the last of the seventh.

Benson came to the plate next and GlenOak elected to give her a free pass putting the tying run aboard and bringing the winning run to the plate. Collins followed with a single, but Benson was tagged out trying to advance to third base to end the game.

Reemsnyder earned the victory in the circle for the Lady Eagles throwing a complete game and striking out three.

Eagles Out-Hit Leopards 11-9

GlenOak out-hit Louisville 11-9 for the game. Borkowski, designated hitter Lillie Cindric, and Krum all had multi-hit games for the Golden Eagles.

Denzer finished 3-for-4 to lead the Lady Leopards. Collins and Mayle also had two hits each for LHS.

GlenOak’s 1st Win Over Louisville Since 2016

The loss snaps Louisville’s seven game winning streak against GlenOak dating back to 2016. The Lady Leopards now trail the all-time series 19-22 overall and the series is now even at 10-10 when the two squads have played at Louisville.

The Leopards are now 1-5 against Federal League foes this season.

UP NEXT: The Lady Leopards Varsity Softball Team will next travel to take on the Mogadore Wildcats on Thursday, May 5 at 5:00 PM. JV will host the Medina Battling Bees at the same time.
