The Louisville Leopards Girls Varsity Soccer Team was shutout by the visiting Canfield Cardinals 2-0 in their season opener Wednesday Night at Louisville Leopards Stadium.

Jannone Scores Twice for Canfield

Despite a strong defensive effort and lots of opportunities, the Lady Leopards were unable to find the back of the net in their opening match of the season.

Canfield capitalized on a pair of breakaway opportunities, one in each half, to secure the win. Lorieona Jannone accounted for both Cardinal goals, finishing on a breakaway in the 5th minute off a pass from Lexi Toporcer to give Canfield a 1-0 advantage.

Jannone struck again late in the second half, this time receiving a through ball from Elise Kovach and breaking free from the defense to score her second goal of the night with 11:54 remaining, sealing the 2-0 victory for the Cardinals.

Elliot Klimas also recorded 9 saves and earned the shutout in goal for Canfield.

Leopards Vs. Cardinals Girls Soccer Series

This was the first meeting between Louisville and Canfield since 2018. The Lady Leopards are now 2-5 against the Cardinals all-time, which includes a 1-1 record in games played at Louisville. The Lady Leopards blanked Canfield 1-0 in their only other matchup at Louisville Leopards Stadium.
