Miller Goes 3-for-3 and Fans 10

My Fit Life Personal Trainer Side AdJunior pitcher Katelynn Miller led the Lady Leopards in the circle and at the plate. Miller was a perfect 3-for-3 at the dish and reached base all four times she stepped to the plate. She drew a walk in the third inning and led off the fifth with a double, with both trips to the plate leading to runs scored by courtesy runner Lilly Seaman.

In the circle, Miller was equally impressive — if not more so. After surrendering an early run, Miller settled in and retired eight of the next nine batters she faced. She performed the same feat again later in the game, a stretch that included striking out the side in order in the bottom of the fifth.

Miller threw a complete game, allowing just one run on six hits while walking one and striking out 10.

Claugus & Campbell Put Leopards In Front

West Main Vet Clinic AdThe Lady Leopards hit the ball hard in the opening inning, but a diving catch by Emmalee Majoros led to a double play that halted their early scoring threat. Neither team scored in the second inning as Louisville headed into the third trailing 1-0.

Louisville wasted no time making noise in the third inning. Leadoff batter Leah Claugus smashed a double over the head of the center fielder that ricocheted off the fence. Three batters later, Addy Campbell followed suit by lacing a line drive to the gap in right-center for a two-run double, scoring Claugus from second and Seaman from first. The shot gave the Lady Leopards their first lead of the game at 2-1, and they never looked back.

O’Neill and Griffith Provide Two-Out Base Knocks

Gionino's Pizzeria Oakwood - Mobile AdShae O’Neill followed with a two-out RBI single through the right side. Mia Verbeck, courtesy runner for Campbell, scored on the play to extend the Louisville advantage to 3-1. O’Neill was called out to end the inning on a close play while attempting to take second on the throw home.

O’Neill delivered again with two outs in the fifth inning. She cracked an RBI double that dropped onto the Firestone Stadium turf in left-center, plating Seaman for the second time.

Two pitches later, Bailee Griffith ripped a liner past the diving shortstop into left field, allowing O’Neill to score from second and stretch the Louisville lead to 5-1.

Louisville out-hit Holy Name 11-6. Claugus, Griffith, Miller, and O’Neill all recorded multi-hit games. Campbell and Taylor Thompson also finished with one hit each.

Holy Name Rides Early Wave

The Green Wave carried the momentum of Majoros’ diving-catch double play into the bottom of the first inning. Aubrey Stephens drove a ball to deep left-center for a triple and pitcher Lucy Reis helped her own cause by driving her home with an RBI double. Holy Name held that 1-0 edge until the third inning.

Three of the Green Wave’s five remaining hits came with two outs in the bottom of the seventh. Victoria Shiban, Majoros, and Kylee Blinky all singled to load the bases with their season on the line. Stephens followed with a towering fly ball to center field, but Claugus was there to make the catch and end the game.

Bailey Garlow also singled to lead off the fourth inning, accounting for Holy Name’s only hit from the second through sixth innings.

The loss snaps the Green Wave’s five-game winning streak as they finish the season with a mark of 21-8.

This was the first-ever meeting between Louisville and Holy Name in softball.

Back-to-Back Regional Finalists

For the first time in program history, the Lady Leopards advanced to back-to-back regional finals. Louisville is now 3-0 all-time in regional semifinal games, having also defeated Chardon 13-0 in five innings in 2019 at the University of Akron and Gilmour Academy 8-7 last season at Kent State.

Louisville has now won eight of its last nine tournament games and improved to 53-39 all-time in the postseason. The Leopards are now 15-17 in postseason games played on a neutral field and 8-1 since moving to Division III last season.
