Louisville Overcomes Early Deficit, Surges Past Perry 52-45 – Boys Basketball

The Louisville Leopards Boys Varsity Basketball Team overcame an early deficit before surging past the visiting Perry Panthers 52-45 in a battle of 2025 State Finalists Friday night at Louisville High School. With the home opener win, Louisville improves to 2-0 on the season extending their winning streak to 13 overall.

Rogers Leads Louisville with Game-High 19
Cohen Rogers scored 10 of his game-high 19 points in the second half to lead the Leopards. Rogers also hit 2 three-pointers, had 2 rebounds, recorded 2 steals, and added an assist.
Louisville trailed Perry 10-2 at the start of the game, but cut the deficit to 15-11 by the end of the first quarter. The Leopards opened up the second quarter on a 13-0 run to take command of the contest. The suffocating Louisville defense held the Panthers off the board until Mikey Haley hit a jumper with 35 seconds to play before halftime, ending an 8:24 scoring drought.
Balcomb Registers Double-Double for Leopards
Cayden Balcomb registered a double-double scoring 14 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Balcomb was red hot in the third quarter, cashing in on 3 three-pointers in the period to cap off a 24-4 Louisville run. His final triple opened up the Leopards’ largest lead of the game at 38-19 with 3:27 remaining in the third quarter.
Brandon Sanders finished with 6 points and 3 rebounds. Drake Wilson also scored 5 points and 4 rebounds. Other scorers for the Leopards included Zach Boldon, Colton Dougherty, Colton Norris, and Cody Zahler who all scored 2 points.
Dougherty led the team in steals with 3, while Gabe Stoffer and Zahler tallied 2 steals each.
Luchitz and Haley Lead Scrappy Panthers
Perry showed why they advanced to the Division II State Championship a year ago as they refused to quit until the final buzzer. Trailing 42-27 at the end of three, the Panthers outscored the Leopards 18-6 in the final stanza to trim the final deficit to single digits.
Joey Luchitz scored 8 of his team-high 14 points in the second half. Luchitz also made 2 of his 3 three-pointers earlier in the opening quarter. Mike Haley also had a strong start scoring 7 of his 13 points in the first quarter. He added two baskets in the fourth quarter as well.
Other scorers in Perry’s season opener included Nasir Foster with 8, Nico Martelli with 5, Trae Robinson with 3, and XJ Wohlheter with 2.

Louisville Vs. Perry Boys Basketball Series
The Leopards have now taken 2 of the last 3 from the Panthers. Louisville last defeated Perry 71-48 in another home matchup on November 26, 2021. The Panthers defeated the Leopards 58-54 at Perry the next season before the two teams took a hiatus for the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 seasons.
The Leopards trail the all-time series 17-34 dating back to the two team’s first meeting in 1969. Louisville is 11-14 when playing at home in the series.
