The Louisville Leopards Boys Varsity Basketball Team upended the visiting Orrville Red Riders 77-31 Tuesday Night at Louisville High School. With the victory, Louisville improves to 12-5 on the season.

Aljancic Pours in Game High 30 for Louisville

My Fit Life Personal Trainer Side AdJunior guard Will Aljancic hit 4 three-pointers and poured in game high 30 points to lead Louisville. When Aljancic and the starters left the floor with 6:17 left in the fourth quarter, Aljancic’s 30 point total matched the team total of the opposing Red Riders as the Leopards had built a 69-30 lead.

Sophomore guard Hayden Nigro made 4 three-pointers en rout to dropping in 20 points for Louisville. Senior guard Tyler Boldon also added 7 and freshman post Brayden Gross tacked on 6 for the Leopards.

Back-and-Forth, Close Game Early On

Lingenhoel Group - Arden and Lisa Lingenhoel - Cutler Real Estate AdLouisville used a 9-0 run to take the first significant lead of the game at 11-5 with just under three minutes to go in the opening quarter. Orrville rallied back to retake the lead at 14-13 early on the second period and the two teams found themselves tied up at 16-16 not long after.

On the ensuing possession, Gross pulled down a pair of offensive boards before scoring to give the Leopards an 18-16 lead and they would never relinquish it. Louisville’s next offensive trip down the floor ended with Aljancic burying a three-pointer from the right corner to put LHS in front 21-16. Junior Brant Besanoon answered for the Red Riders on the other end with a corner three-ball of his own to cut the deficit to 21-19 with 5:14 to play.

Leopards Go Full Throttle with 27-2 Run

Jenny Can Cleaning AdOn the next Leopard possession, Nigro swished a three from the left side of the arch. Then Aljancic snagged a rebound on the defensive end and went coast to coast to put Louisville ahead 26-19. Orrville tried to slow down LHS with a timeout, but it was full throttle ahead for the Leopards who opened up a 48-21 lead via a 27-2 second period run.

Louisville finished with 35 points in the second quarter, potentially a team record. Nigro finished with 15 in the period and Aljancic tallied 13 for the quarter. Both hit 3 three-pointers during the onslaught.

Fastest Win in Louisville History

The Leopards took a 48-23 lead into the locker room and continued to build upon it in the third quarter. Louisville began the second half on a 12-0 run to pull ahead 60-23.

This invoked the 35-point mercy rule and the clock ran the rest of the way. The only time the clocked stopped was at the end of third quarter in which two free throws still needed to be attempted by the Red Riders as the buzzer sounded.

With the running clock and only 17 total fouls called throughout, this is likely the fastest Leopards game in team history. The game spanned just 58 minutes and 2 seconds from opening tip around 6:54 PM to the final buzzer at 7:52 PM.

Largest Margin of Victory Since 2016

The Leopards took a 64-28 lead at the end of the third and outscored the Red Riders 13-3 in the fourth quarter. Louisville held Orrville scoreless from the floor over the final 6:48 of the game and only allowed a single free throw make with 5:04 to go the rest of the way.

LHS closed the final five minutes with 8 unanswered points to finish off a 46-point win, their largest margin of victory since 2016 and fourth highest margin in a winning effort under Head Coach Tom Siegfried.
