Wilson Hauls in 58-Yard Touchdown to Give Leopards Early Lead

Gionino's Pizzeria Oakwood - Mobile AdWilson provided Louisville with its biggest offensive play of the night and gave the Leopards the early advantage during their second possession.

Louisville took over at its own 26 and immediately went to work on the ground. Junior running back Lucas Neff carried for gains of 8 and 3 yards before junior Caden Kortis added 5 yards to advance the ball to the Leopard 42.

Facing 2nd-and-5, Zahler looked deep for Wilson. A defender interfered with Wilson as the pass arrived at the Ursuline 25, but Wilson still secured the football with the defender hanging on him. Wilson broke loose and raced the remaining 25 yards into the end zone for a 58-yard touchdown.

Junior placekicker Parker Daum added the extra point to give Louisville a 7-0 lead with 5:25 remaining in the opening quarter. The four-play scoring drive covered 74 yards.

Wilson finished as Louisville’s leading receiver with four catches for 74 yards and a touchdown. He accounted for 74 of the Leopards’ 90 passing yards and also helped Louisville convert a key fourth down during its final drive of the first half.

Ursuline Answers and Takes the Lead

Ursuline responded quickly on its next possession. Sophomore running back Zalin Strother broke free for a 68-yard touchdown run to finish a five-play, 78-yard drive.

Senior offensive lineman Aden Norris kept Louisville in front by blocking the ensuing extra-point attempt. The Leopards carried a 7-6 advantage into the second quarter.

Ursuline took the lead after junior Dale Peterman returned a Hunter Fetrow punt 24 yards to the Louisville 22. A block-in-the-back penalty moved the Fighting Irish backward, but Ursuline still advanced into field-goal range. Senior Antonio Ricchiuti connected on a 31-yard field goal to put the Irish ahead 9-7 with 11:01 remaining in the half.

Kortis and Galbraith Force Fumble to Halt Irish Threat

My Fit Life Personal Trainer Side AdFetrow helped Louisville reverse the field on his next punt. The junior boomed the ball 60 yards before junior Xavier Pollard downed it at the Ursuline 3.

The Fighting Irish nearly surrendered a defensive score on their first play of the next drive when the ball was fumbled into the end zone. Sophomore quarterback Patrick Reardon immediately scooped it up and escaped for a 16-yard gain and a first down.

Ursuline drove 85 yards to the Louisville 12 before the Leopard defense produced its only takeaway of the night. Kortis forced Ethan Sandusky to fumble following a short completion, and junior Logan Galbraith was there to scoop it up. Galbraith sprinted 42 yards down the right sideline before being pushed out of bounds at the Ursuline 47.

Javey Highlight Reel Puts Ursuline Ahead 16-7

Louisville was unable to capitalize. After two runs gained no yards and a penalty left the Leopards facing 2nd-and-20, junior Ray Javey intercepted Zahler at midfield and returned the ball 15 yards to the Louisville 35.

Reardon went right back to Javey on Ursuline’s next offensive play. Javey reached behind him with one hand to make an Odell Beckham-like catch down the left sideline for a 27-yard gain to the Leopard 8.

Louisville’s defense forced the Irish into a 4th-and-goal from the 7, but Sandusky rolled out and connected with Javey for a touchdown. Ricchiuti’s extra point extended the Ursuline lead to 16-7 with 3:56 remaining before halftime.

Daum Field Goal Pulls Louisville Within 16-10 at Halftime

West Main Vet Clinic AdJunior Haiden Reynolds gave Louisville an opportunity to answer with a 39-yard kickoff return into Ursuline territory. The return allowed the Leopards to begin their final possession of the half at the Fighting Irish 46.

Zahler completed a short pass to Kortis before Kortis carried twice to set up a 4th-and-1. Zahler converted by finding Wilson for an 8-yard completion to the Ursuline 29.

An Ursuline sack put Louisville behind the chains, but Zahler responded on 3rd-and-13 by connecting with junior Caison Grimm for 15 yards and a first down at the Irish 17. Grimm’s 15-yard reception was Louisville’s second-longest catch of the night.

The Leopards advanced to the 12 before another sack eventually forced a field-goal attempt. Daum converted from 35 yards as time expired, completing an 11-play, 28-yard drive and cutting Ursuline’s halftime advantage to 16-10.

Fighting Irish Explode for 27 Points in Third Quarter

Ursuline seized control immediately after halftime, scoring touchdowns on all four of its third-quarter possessions.

Senior running back Vinnie Fecko carried on the first four plays of the second half and gained 45 yards, including runs of 27 and 13 yards. Facing 3rd-and-7 from the Louisville 26, Reardon found Javey for a touchdown. Ricchiuti’s extra point completed a six-play, 71-yard drive and increased the lead to 23-10 with 10:08 remaining in the quarter.

Kortis provided Louisville with its longest run of the night on the first play of the ensuing possession, bursting ahead for 16 yards. However, senior linebacker Tyrie Humphrey stripped Kortis at the end of the run and sophomore Rahfael Pacheco recovered the fumble for Ursuline at the Louisville 41.

The Fighting Irish converted the turnover into another touchdown. Sandusky completed passes to Reardon and sophomore Jordan Steiginga before Strother scored on a 5-yard run. The extra-point clanked off the left upright, but Ursuline had extended its lead to 29-10 with 8:11 remaining in the third quarter.

Senior Colton Dougherty helped Louisville move into Ursuline territory on its next possession. Dougherty carried for gains of 14 and 9 yards on consecutive plays, but a sack and an illegal forward pass penalty forced the Leopards to punt.

Ursuline answered with a seven-play, 58-yard touchdown drive. The Fighting Irish continued to lean on their ground game before Sandusky kept the ball and scored on a 19-yard run. Ricchiuti’s extra point made it 36-10 with 2:19 left in the third quarter.

The Irish defense produced another turnover on Louisville’s next play from scrimmage. Junior defensive back Josh Hanuscak stepped in front of Zahler’s pass to setup Ursuline with prime field position at the Leopard 26.

Fecko carried for 8 yards on the first play before breaking free for an 18-yard touchdown on the next. Ricchiuti’s extra point gave Ursuline a 43-10 lead with 1:18 remaining in the third quarter and the scoring drive triggered a running clock for the remainder of the game.

Ursuline’s four third-quarter touchdown drives covered 71, 41, 58, and 26 yards. The Fighting Irish amassed 196 yards during the quarter, including 140 rushing yards and 56 passing yards. Louisville ran only six offensive plays during the third quarter and committed two turnovers.

Louisville’s only fourth-quarter possession ended when sophomore defensive lineman Clemate Franklin recovered a fumble in the backfield. Ursuline took possession with just under nine minutes remaining and used nine consecutive running plays to drain the rest of the clock.

Ursuline Rushing Attack Piles Up 330 Yards

Ursuline finished with 47 carries for 330 yards and four touchdowns, averaging 7 yards per rushing attempt. Sixteen of the Fighting Irish’s 21 first downs came on the ground.

Fecko led the way with 121 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries. Strother needed only five attempts to produce 98 yards and two touchdowns, highlighted by his 68-yard scoring run during the opening quarter.

Sandusky added 41 yards and a touchdown on five carries, while Reardon also ran five times for 41 yards. The two quarterbacks combined to complete 10 of 17 passes for 115 yards and each threw a touchdown.

Javey led the Irish through the air with five catches for 85 yards and two touchdowns. He also intercepted a pass and returned it 15 yards to set up Ursuline’s second-quarter touchdown.

The Fighting Irish gained 238 yards during the first half before adding 207 after halftime. Ursuline produced 196 of those second-half yards during its decisive third quarter, then used its rushing attack to control the entire final nine minutes.

Ursuline out-gained Louisville 445-181 and finished with a 21-8 advantage in first downs. The Irish defense forced four turnovers, intercepting two passes and recovering both Louisville fumbles.
