The Leopards roared out of the gate to start the new season. After surrendering a three-pointer to the Knights, Louisville strung together an 11-2 run and eventually claimed a 13-8 lead at the end of the first quarter.

St. Thomas rallied back with their best quarter of the night. The Knights outscored the Leopards 28-20 in the second period to take a 36-33 advantage into the break.

The two teams continued to battle back-and-forth into the second half as the lead exchanged hands eight times throughout the third quarter. Aquinas jumped out to their largest lead of the night at 50-45 after senior Zack Wartley rolled to the rack with 2:37 left. Wartley would score 9 of his 19 points in the third quarter for the Knights.

Louisville Uses 15-0 Run to Take Double-Digit Lead

Facing their largest deficit of the night, the Leopards answered back with a 15-0 run in less than three minutes of game time. Boldon opened up the run with a three-pointer from the top of the key as Louisville scored the final 12 points of the third quarter. Boldon later hit a three-pointer from the left wing to open up the fourth quarter in capping off the 15-point LHS onslaught.

Chris Autrey ended the 4:18 St. Thomas drought from the field with a basket to cut the Leopard lead to 60-53 with 6:19 left in the game. Louisville would maintain that 7-point advantage into the final minute of the contest, but Aquinas made things interesting shortly after.

Noble is Clutch from the Line in Final Seconds

Jenny Can Cleaning AdWith under a minute to play, Wartley made a deep three-pointer from the left wing after Louisville committed a backcourt violation. The Leopards turned the ball over on the ensuing inbound to give possession immediately back to the Knights. Autrey dribbled through the lane and scored on a lay-in to trim the LHS advantage to 65-63 with 28 seconds remaining. Autrey would finish with a game-high 21 points to lead St. Thomas.

Louisville managed to kill off half the remaining clock on their next possession because Aquinas had a foul to give. The Knights finally fouled Noble with 14.2 seconds to go, which put the Leopards in the bonus. Noble made the most of the 1-and-1 opportunity by burying both free throw attempts to clinch the Louisville victory.

All-Time Battle for Louisville Boys Basketball

The Leopards now lead the all-time Battle for Louisville in boys basketball 3-1 over the Knights. This was the first time LHS hosted St. Thomas since February 8, 1992, a matchup the Leopards won 79-59. Louisville also defeated Aquinas 59-43 last season.
