Softball Goes Deep Early in 10-1 Win Over Lions

The Louisville Lady Leopards Varsity Softball team downed the visiting Minerva Lions 10-1 Tuesday Evening at the Diamond of Dreams. With the victory, Louisville improves to 4-2 on the season and now holds a 3-1 record in NBC play.
The Lady Leopards blasted 3 home runs in the first two innings to go ahead 4-0. Freshman Kaycee Ollis led off the bottom half of the Louisville first by hitting the first home run of her career over the right field fence. She would also hit a 2-run triple later on in the fourth inning to finish 2-for-4 on the evening.
Two Batters later, Grace Jackson slammed a 2-run home over the same right field fence to make it 3-0. The dinger was her 4th of the season giving her 25 for her career. Jackson would finished 2-for-2 with a double later on and 3 runs scored.
In the second inning, Birthday Girl Peyton McKeever got in on the party with a solo home run to left field to make it 4-0. McKeever had a very Happy Birthday in finishing 3-for-4 at the dish with 2 runs scored.
In the circle, Morgan Harris (2-1) pitched a complete game, gave up 1 run on 10 hits, and struck out 10 to earn the victory for the Lady Leopards. This is the second time Harris has reached double digits in strikeouts in her career as she also rung up 13 in just five innings at Alliance last season.
The Lions only run of the game came on a squeeze play. Kiaunna Brown bunted in Aubrey Stanford from third. This along with a magnificent frozen rope catch by Minerva Shortstop Mady Phillips in the sixth helped keep the mercy rule at bay.
Hannah Reusser batted 2-for-3 at the plate and pitched 5 strikeouts to lead the Lions. Minerva is now 3-4 overall and 1-3 in the NBC.
Emily Cantley also had a double & 2 RBIs and Lexi Zavarelle drove in a run for Louisville.
With the victory, the Leopards have now won 15 straight meetings against the Lions. Louisville now leads the all-time series 39-10, which includes a 20-5 mark at home. The Leopards have now won 68 of their last 70 conference games.
