The Louisville Lady Leopards Varsity Softball team downed the visiting Canfield Cardinals 4-1 Saturday Afternoon at the Diamond of Dreams. With the win, Louisville improves to 10-5 on the season.
The Leopards broke a 1-1 tie with a 3-run fifth inning. Peyton McKeever led off with an infield single and then Kaycee Ollis reached base on error setting up Louisville with runners on second & third with no outs. Next, Teagan Rice hit a sacrifice fly to bring in McKeever for the go-ahead run.
Grace Jackson doubled in courtesy runner Riley Bobo to pad the Leopard lead. Then Emily Cantley traded spots with Jackson after cracking her own double to center to make it 4-1.
Cantley and Aliyah English each finished 2-for-3 at the dish to lead Louisville. English led off the fourth with a triple to to right field, but the Lady Leopards failed to bring her home.
In the second inning, Rylee Squire’s sacrifice fly scored Savannah Miner to give Louisville the early 1-0 lead. Miner doubled to start the frame and advanced to third on a groundout by Justina Sirohman to setup the scoring opportunity for the Leopards.
In the circle, Kirsten Wharmby (2-1) pitched a complete game, gave up just 1 earned run on 10 hits, and struck out 2 to earn the win for Louisville,
The Cardinals only run came in the fourth inning when Maura Kennedy drove in Ally Lambert. Jill Baker, Kennedy, and Jenna Gibson all finished with multi-hit games to lead Canfield.
With the victory, the Leopards have now won 2 straight against the Cardinals and lead the all-time series 4-1. This includes a 2-1 mark at LHS. Canfield (14-3) is currently ranked 9th in the latest Division I Ohio High School Softball Coaches Association Poll. Louisville travels to Perry on Monday to play the Panthers who are currently ranked 4th in the same poll.
