Senior Day Ruined by Worst Home Loss in History

Lake 11, Louisville 0

The Lake Blue Streaks handed the Lady Leopards their second worst loss in the history of the Louisville girls soccer program Saturday afternoon at Louisville Leopards Stadium.  The 11-0 massacre couldn’t have come at a worse time for the Leps who honored Seniors Brandi Globokar, Abby Hahn, Nicolette Knight, Michelle Patterson, and Mackenzie Storlie as they played the final home regular season game of their careers.

It wasn’t all bad though.  The Lady Leps and Blue Streaks played even through the first 19 minutes of the contest before the Blue Streaks broke the scoreless tie with 20:39 to go until half.  The score remained 1-nil until 5:36 left in the half, but that’s when it got ugly quick.  Lake scored three goals in a span of 2:35 and eventually took a 4-0 lead into the half.

The Blue Streaks didn’t let up in the second half either as they scored 7 more goals before time ran out.  Only the Lady Leps 12-0 loss to Cuyahoga Falls on August 29, 2009 eclipses this game as the worst loss in the history of the program.  A 7-0 loss to West Branch on September 14, 2004 was the previous largest margin of defeat at home.

To add insult to injury, this game was originally supposed to be the first girls soccer game to be played at the new stadium, but was postponed due to a heavy amount of rain and several lightning strikes.  Had the game been played, Wednesday nights 3-1 victory over Alliance would have likely been Senior Night.

Louisville finishes the 2011 regular season with a record of 9-6-0 a vast improvement from the 2010 campaign in which they were 4-10-3 overall.  The Lady Leps will host and look to rebound against another Federal League foe in the Sectional Semifinals when they play Perry Tuesday.

Leopard Nation would like to give a shout out to Seniors Brandi Globokar, Abby Hahn, Nicolette Knight, Michelle Patterson, and Mackenzie Storlie for having great soccer careers at LHS! Your hard work and dedication is truly appreciated.  Good luck to you in your bright future ahead. -Leopard Nation

NEXT UP: The Lady Leps will host the Perry Panthers on Tuesday, October 15, 2011 at 7:15 PM in the Sectional Semifinals of the state tournament.
