One Swing Enough to Doom Softball at Districts Vs. Perry
Perry 1, Louisville 0
The Louisville Lady Leopards Varsity Softball Team’s tournament run came to a heartbreaking conclusion in the DI Massillon District Semifinals. Top seeded Perry blanked 6th seeded Louisville 1-0 at the Washington High School Eagles #190 Sports Complex Monday Afternoon. With the loss, the Lady Leopards dropped to 20-7 on the season.
Perry Freshman Brystal Borck launched a 3-1 pitch deep over the left field wall to start the bottom of the third. The homer was the Panthers only hit of the contest, but it would be all that they needed to advance to Tuesday’s District Championship Game against 3rd seeded North Canton Hoover.
Senior Emily Cantley finished with the Leopards only two hits of the contest in going 2-for-3 at the plate. The left-handed Louisville Third Baseman singled to right field with 1 out in the third and later led off the seventh inning by pulling a single to left field. On both occasions, Sophomore Aliyah English successfully sacrificed Cantley (or the pinch-running Riley Bobo in the 7th) into scoring position. The Leopards simply could not push the run across.
In the circle, Morgan Harris was nearly kept Louisville in the game and was nearly unhittable . She pitched a complete game, gave up just the one hit, and struck out 5. She was only outdone by Sophomore Pitcher Makenna Durieux who was nearly flawless in the circle for Perry. She pitched a complete game, 2-hit shutout and struckout 13.
With the loss, the Leopards have dropped 4 of their past 5 meetings against the Panthers. Louisville now trails the all-time series 8-24, which includes an 0-4 record against Perry in tournament games. The Lady Leopards are now 31-32 in tournament play all-time.
UP NEXT: The Lady Leopards will conclude their season at Carrollton looking to clinch the NBC outright against the Warriors on Wednesday, May 18 at 5:00 PM
