Leopards Win District & Advance to State for 4th Straight Year – Wrestling

Jenny Can Cleaning AdThe Louisville Leopards Varsity Wrestling Team hosted OHSWCA Dual Team DII Perry Lower District Tournament Saturday at Louisville High School. Louisville defeated the Salem Quakers 45-27 in their district semifinal before downing the Canfield Cardinals 51-30 in the district final. The Leopards remain undefeated in dual matches this season improving to 9-0. 

Louisville advances to the OHSWCA Dual Team State Tournament for the fourth consecutive season after winning the district championship in their home gym. The OHSWA Dual Team State Tournament will be held at New Lexington High School on Saturday, February 11.

District Semifinal Vs. Salem | District Final Vs. Canfield


District Semifinal: Louisville 45, Salem 27

Equitable Advisors - Bryce MathieLouisville built a 30-0 lead from the onset in their district semifinal match against Salem. Freshman Colton Rhoads (106), senior Connor Novosel (113), freshman Beau Nezbeth (120), and senior Dylan Rhoads (132) all recorded pins while building the Leopard advantage. Juniors Kolten Barker (126) and Tanner Frank (138) also notched decisions as Louisville won the first six bouts of the match.

Later on, sophomore Wyatt Smith (165) also won by fall and senior Jude Yeager (175) earned a decision to put the Leopards ahead 45-9. Louisville forfeited the remaining matches to advance to the district final with a 45-27 win. Senior Dominic Hoffarth (150) also claimed an earlier forfeit for the Leopards.

Sophomore Shawn German (144) was the lone Salem winner on the mat earning a decision. Quaker winners by forfeit included senior Ethin Whitman (190), junior Trenton McCoy (215), and senior Ryan Kamperman (285).

District Final: Louisville 51, Canfield 30

Louisville was spotted 18 points from the start after senior Connor Novosel (113), freshman Beau Nezbeth (120), and senior Kolten Barker (126) all claimed victories through forfeit. Senior Dylan Rhoads (132) followed by expanding the Leopard lead to 24-0 with a 41 second pin.

Senior Ty Stricko (138) claimed the Cardinals first victory via pin just before the first period ended. Junior Tanner Frank (144) answered back with a 6-3 decision to put LHS ahead 27-6. Senior Dominic Hoffarth (150) and sophomore Wyatt Smith (157) followed with back-to-back pins to up the Louisville advantage to 39-6.

Lingenhoel Group - Arden and Lisa Lingenhoel - Cutler Real Estate AdSenior Niko Poullas (165) and freshman Tristan Miller (175) responded with back-to-back victories by fall to crack the door open for Canfield. However, Louisville clinched the match when senior Gavin Hamilton (190) claimed a forfeit in the next weight class to put LHS ahead 45-18 with three matches remaining.

Senior Jimmy Scharrer (215) and junior Vince Luce (285) both claimed forfeits for Canfield in the heavyweight matchups. Freshman Colton Rhoads (106) also won by fall in the final matchup of the evening to finalize the score at 51-30.
