North Canton Hoover Vikings at Louisville Leopards Softball Video Highlights

The #6 ranked Louisville Leopards Varsity Softball Team shutout the visiting North Canton Hoover Vikings 3-0 Wednesday Evening at the Diamond of Dreams. With the victory, Louisville increases their undefeated mark to 8-0 to start the season.
Sarah Cantley threw a complete game 2-hit shutout and struck out 12 to lead the Lady Leopards. She improves to 7-0 for the year with the victory.
The Leopards struck early in the first inning. Sydney McKeever bunted for a single, stole second, and then advanced to third on a sacrifice by Teagan Rice. Kaycee Ollis drove McKeever home 3 pitches later on a hard ground ball single to right field. Louisville would never give up this advantage the rest of the way.
LHS looked to add to their lead in the third inning. Shae Thomas blasted a towering 2-out, 2-run homer to center field that one-hopped into the road behind. Ollis, who reached on a fielder’s choice, also scored on the play. The dinger was her second on the season and the 7th for the Leopards as a team.
The Vikings managed a base runner in each of the first four innings, but none of them got beyond second base. As the weather got colder and the game went on longer, Cantley got stronger. She retired the final 10 Hoover batters consecutively including striking out 5 of the last 6. The lone putout in that sequence came when Ellie Jackson made an over-the-shoulder grab just before barreling into the fence in center field for the second out in the seventh.
North Canton was led by Grace Vesco who pitched all 6 innings and struck out 9. Kaitlynn O’Donnell had a double and Alysha Elsbury singled to record the only two hits for Hoover.
This is only the fifth time the Leopards have ever defeated the Vikings and the first time they have ever shut them out. Louisville’s last win over North Canton came 7 years to the day, a 3-2 victory on the Diamond of Dreams back on April 18, 2011. The Leopards still trails the all-time series 5-39 with all five victories coming at home. LHS is now 4-0 in non-conference matchups.

UP NEXT: The Louisville Leopards Softball Team will next compete at the George Duhon Memorial Tournament in Massillon this weekend. They will play the Akron Manchester Panthers on Friday, April 20 at 5:00 PM then on Saturday, April 21 they will play the Tuslaw Mustangs at 10:00 AM and the Dover Tornadoes at 2:00 PM.
