Leopards Can’t Overcome Hoover 2nd Quarter Run, Fall 61-49 – Boys Basketball

The Louisville Leopards Boys Varsity Basketball Team fell to the visiting North Canton Hoover Vikings 61-49 Tuesday Night at Louisville High School. With the loss, Louisville drops to 3-4 on the season.

Sophomore shooting guard Will Aljancic hit 3 three-pointers and scored a game-high 17 points to lead the Leopards. Senior point guard Dakota Hoffman also reached double figures with 10 and freshman Hayden Nigro added 6 points in the second half for Louisville. 


Vikings Take Command with 10-0 1st Half Run

My Fit Life Personal Trainer Side AdThe Leopards surrendered the first 4 points of the contest, but then proceeded to go on an 8-0 run to take their only lead of the contest. The Vikings would answer with a run of their own in taking a 14-11 advantage at the end of the first quarter.

Hoover took command of the game in the second quarter with a 10-0 run during the period. North Canton held Louisville scoreless from the field for the final 6:10 of the first half and took a double digit 29-18 lead into the break.


Hoover Adds to Lead in 2nd Half

Lingenhoel Group - Arden and Lisa Lingenhoel - Cutler Real Estate AdAljancic snapped the Leopards drought from the floor by cashing in on a three-point attempt from the top of the arch with 6:33 to go in the third quarter. But the Vikings countered with a 10-2 run that was capped off by the second of senior Zach Yun’s three-point baskets in the third period to put Hoover in front 41-23.

North Canton would extend their lead to as many as 19 before riding a 43-28 lead into the fourth quarter. The Leopards outscored the Vikings 21-18 in the final period to trim the final deficit to 12. 


Henne Leads North Canton with 16 Points

Samantha's Grill AdHoover committed 23 fouls in the game to Louisville’s 16, but LHS was unable to capitalize as neither team shot well from the line. The Leopards connected on just 15 of 28 (54%) shots from the charity stride, while Hoover fared worse making only 3 of 7 (37%) free throws.

The Vikings (2-5) were led by senior Brock Henne who scored all of his team-high 16 points from the floor. Junior Tanner Ware also poured in 13 and junior Cade Henne finished with 9 for North Canton. 


Vikings 1st Win at Louisville Since 2009

Jenny Can Cleaning AdThe loss snaps the Leopards 5-game winning streak over the Vikings dating back to 2016 and 6-game winning streak over Hoover in the regular season dating back to 2011. This is North Canton’s first victory at Louisville since they won 67-44 back on February 17, 2009. Prior to Tuesday, the Vikings last win over the Leopards overall came in a 57-39 victory in the 2013 DI Sectional Semifinals held at Alliance. 

Hoover leads the all-time series in boys basketball over Louisville 67-60 dating back to 1926, but the Leopards still hold a 6-5 edge in the rivalry since Tom Siegfried took the helm as head coach at the start of the 2007-2008 season.
