Leopards Start New Year With Win Over Quakers 71-64 – Boys Basketball

The Louisville Leopards Boys Varsity Basketball Team defeated the visiting New Philadelphia Quakers 71-64 Tuesday Night at Louisville High School. With the victory, Louisville improves to 8-2 on the season.


Aljancic & Nigro Pour in Game High 23 Each

Lingenhoel Group - Arden and Lisa Lingenhoel - Cutler Real Estate AdJunior guard Will Aljancic and sophomore guard Hayden Nigro each scored a game high 23 points to lead the Leopards. Senior guard Tyler Boldon also reached double figures with 11 and senior post AJ Lingenhoel added 8 for Louisville.


Leopards Dig Out of Early Hole with a Pair of Runs

Jenny Can Cleaning AdThe Quakers scored the first five points of the contest, but the Leopards answered back with an 8-0 run to take the lead. Louisville would never trail again. The two teams knotted at 10-10 before the Leopards pulled ahead 15-10 at the end of the first via a buzzer beating three-pointer by Boldon on the right side of the arch.

Louisville continued to expand their advantage into the second quarter taking a 21-10 lead after capping off an 11-0 run. The Leopards maintained a 33-25 lead at the break and pulled ahead by as many as fifteen at 52-37 with 1:26 remaining in the third quarter.


Louisville Ices Victory from the Line

Louisville took a 55-42 cushion into the fourth quarter as New Philadelphia chipped away at the deficit. With a little under two minutes to play, sophomore guard Colton Slaughter deflected a Leopard pass and it found the hands of Quaker sophomore guard Owen Miller. A few seconds later, junior guard Michael Vickers hit New Philadelphia’s tenth three-pointer of the contest from the top of the key to trim the LHS lead to 64-58 with 1:38 to play.

The Quakers would not get any closer as the Leopards cashed in on 7 of 8 free throw attempts in the final 87 seconds to ice the game. Lingenhoel, Nigro, and freshman guard Beau Siegfried were all clutch from the line in the final minutes to help Louisville seal the game. LHS would finish 23 of 26 (88%) from the stride, while New Philadelphia ended the night 6 of 7 (86%) from the foul line.


Schoelles Scores Game High 23 for Quakers

My Fit Life Personal Trainer Side AdThe Quakers (6-2) were led by senior guard Kayden Schoelles who made 3 three-pointers and scored 9 of his game high 23 points in the fourth quarter. Vickers also hit home a pair of three-pointers and finished with 14. Slaughter also reached double figures for New Philadelphia scoring all of his 12 points from downtown.

With the victory, the Leopards have now taken 3 of their last 4 meetings against the Quakers overall, with each win coming at home. Louisville still trails the all-time series 10-11 dating back to their first known meeting in 1957. However, the Leopards are 8-3 against New Philadelphia when playing within the confines of Louisville High School.
