Leopards Open Tournament with 10-5 Victory Over NDCL – Boys Lacrosse

The #12 Seed Louisville Leopards Boys Varsity Lacrosse Team doubled up the #15 Seed Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin Lions 10-5 in the opening round of the Division II, Region 6 Tournament Saturday Evening at Louisville Leopards Stadium. With the victory, Louisville improves to 5-7 on the season and advances to play at Archbishop Hoban on Monday, May 13 at 6:00 PM in the second round the DII, Region 6 tournament.
Jared Mathie scored 4 goals and Braden Thomas recorded a hat trick to lead the Leopards. Thomas also dished out 3 assists in setting up a goal for Mathie that put Louisville ahead 4-1 heading into the half. Thomas also provided assists on second half goals by Clayton McLaughlin and Matt Swigert.
Seven of the Leopards 10 goals scored were assisted. McLaughlin and Jackson Simpson both finished with 1 goal and 1 assist a piece. Jason Elwell and Mathie also contributed one assist each.
Louisville led 2-0 at the end of the first and held a 4-1 advantage at the break. The Leopards ripped off four more goals in the third quarter including 3 straight to end the period with the blue and white leading 8-3. Each team scored twice in the fourth quarter after that.
Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin (2-14) was led by Sam Myers who scored a pair of goals and added an assist. Other goal scorers for the Lions included Francis Laneve, Robert Smith, and Nicholas Johnson. Tad Brennan, Andrew Kerr, and Matthew Montazzoli also had assists for NDCL.
The Leopards are now 2-0 against the Lions all-time. The also defeated NDCL 13-12 on a last second goal by Nate Hostetler back in 2016 at Louisville Leopards Stadium. Louisville is now 6-4 all-time in postseason play which includes an undefeated 3-0 record in home tournament games.
UP NEXT: The Leopards will next travel to face the Archbishop Hoban Knights on Monday, May 13 at 6:00 PM in the second round of the Division II, Region 6 OHSAA tournament.
