Boys Lacrosse Rallies for Last Second Victory Against NDCL
Louisville 13, Notre Dame Cathedral Latin 12
The Louisville Leopards rallied for a thrilling, last second 13-12 victory over the visiting Notre Dame Cathedral Latin Lions Friday Evening at Louisville Leopards Stadium. With the victory, Louisville improves to 3-1.
Jared Holland scored 4 goals and recorded 5 assists to lead the Leopards. None of his assists were as big as his pass to a cutting Nate Hostetler for the game winning goal with 5 seconds remaining. With the goal, Hostetler joined Holland and Mark Soehnlen in the Hat Trick Club for the evening.
Just 2:20 earlier, Louisville found themselves trailing 12-10 after surrendering a third straight goal to NCDL. The Lion scoring on the play was John Friedl who tormented both the nets, and the Leopards, for 8 goals and 3 assists.
Louisville answered back immediately when Holland came from behind the net to score 19 seconds later. On the other end, Noah Bellew gave the opposition fits and the Lions turned the ball over. The Leopards moved the ball across midfield and called timeout.
When play resumed, Atticus Forbes flipped a pass over to Soehnlen who quickly scanned the defense. He side-stepped to the left and then scampered through an opening toward the goal. His shot soared into the left side of the net knotting the game at 12-12 with only 38 seconds left to play.
The Leopards only won 9 of the 26 face-offs in the game. However, Kohlten Bryan won the one that counted most. He popped the ball to his left and it nicked off a NDCL player out of bounds, giving Louisville the ball back with just 26 seconds to go.
The Leopards let the time tick down to the final 10 seconds before Holland began to drive. The play worked to perfection as Holland hit his target in stride and Hostetler buried the ball into the back of the net past the charging goalie.
The Lions final gasp was knocked away by Louisville Goalie Jared Davis to clinch the victory. Davis finished with 10 saves on the night for the Leopards.
Louisville also doubled up Notre Dame Cathedral Latin in ground balls on the night 46-23. Soehnlen finished with a game-high 11 ground balls and Patrick McCarthy also had 10.
Sean McKinney also scored a pair of goals and Atticus Forbes added another for the Leopards.
Zachary Avsec finished with a pair of goals for NDCL and both Ryan LaBanc & Remington Wilson each found the net as well.
UP NEXT: The Leopards will next host the Green Bulldogs on Tuesday, April 19. JV will start at 5:30 PM and Varsity will follow at 7:30 PM.
