Minerva Rallies to Down Louisville in Rainy Soccer Contest

Riley Groves and Kyle Baker each scored goals for the Leopards, but Minerva rallied to defeat Louisville 3-2.  The loss drops the Leopards to an even 6-6 overall and 2-3 in the NBC.

Beatty's Sports Grey Louisville Athletics T-ShirtGroves first goal came on a penalty kick about nine minutes into the contest.  The Lions then tied the game with a goal of their own before Baker broke free for a fast break goal.  Baker dribbled hard into the goal box, was tripped up as the ball ricochet off of a defender and shot into the air.  The ball bounce once and crossed the goal line airborne at the top of the net to give the Leopards a 2-1 advantage.

The Lions would knot the game at 2-2 with just 1:46 remaining in the first half and then would score the game-winning goal midway through the second half.  Louisville had several opportunities close to Minerva’s net but could not convert on any touches into goals.  The cold, rainy weather matched the Leopards feeling after their second straight loss to the Lions.  Louisville is now 8-4-1 against Minerva all-time in Boys Soccer.
