Warner Strikes Out 9 in Shutout
Senior starting pitcher Anthony Warner threw a complete game 3-hit shutout and struck out 9 to lead the Leopards.
Warner issued a pair of walks to start the game, but quickly worked out of the jam with a strikeout followed by a 6-4-3 double play. The Tigers were unable to advance a runner to second base for the rest of the game as Warner became more dominant as the game went on.
The only Massillon runner in the second inning reached base on an error. Warner struck out the next three batters to end the frame. Senior right fielder Austin Brawley led off the top of the third with a single, but again the next three Tiger hitters failed to advance him. Junior starting pitcher Matthew McGeorge singled to begin the Massillon fourth inning, but Warner got sophomore third baseman Sam Snodgrass to ground into a 5-4-3 double play two pitches later to clear the bases.
That double play started a streak in which Warner retired 10 straight Tiger hitters going into the seventh inning. Sophomore shortstop Gavin Marceric got aboard via two outs in the seventh inning to breakup the Massillon hit drought. However, sophomore left fielder Tyler Hackenbracht lined out to right field on the next pitch to preserve the shutout for Warner. He improves to 2-0 on the mound this season with the victory.
Seaman Delivers 3 RBI Singles
Senior right fielder Zack Seaman went 3-for-3 with 3 RBI singles to lead the Leopards at the plate. Seaman hit a pair of two out singles that brought home senior third baseman Caleb Miller each time in the second and fourth innings. On Seaman’s first single, an error by the Tigers centerfielder also allowed junior courtesy runner Kyle Vesely to score from third. Later in the bottom of the sixth, Seaman cracked a 1-out single to center plating senior left fielder Connor Adelman.
Senior shortstop JT Popick also went 2-for-3 with an RBI single in the seventh that plated Seaman. Earlier senior catcher Walker Kandel doubled home junior designated hitter Karson Siegfried to get Louisville on the board in the second inning. Miller also doubled in the fourth inning for the Leopards only other extra base hit in the contest.
