Louisville 11, West Branch 3
Down 3-0, the Leopards scored 11 unanswered runs in two innings to earn an 11-3 victory over the visiting West Branch Warriors on Friday. With the victory Louisville improves to 3-6 overall and more importantly stays in the NBC race at 3-1.
Alex Hollifield, Jordan Hughes, and Garrett Yoder led the offense by driving in 2 runs each. Nine different Leopards crossed the plate, which included both Joey Duckworth and Kyle White scoring twice.
The Leopards used a 4-run third inning to take the lead. Yoder’s 2-run single to center cut the deficit to 3-2. Then both Hughes and Pavin Parks delivered RBI at-bats to give the Leps a 4-3 advantage.
In the fourth inning, Louisville exploded for their biggest inning of the season. First, Hollifield dropped a bloop single into the gap in left to bring home Joe Crank. Then White stole home on a double steal that drew the catcher’s throw to second where a sliding Riley Groves was safe.
A groundout allowed Groves to advance to third on the next play. Amazingly the groundout was the second out of the inning, but the Leopards would still manage to pour in 5 more runs before taking the field again. First, Groves took home on a wild pitch. Then Hughes delivered an RBI Double to deep right-center to make it 8-3. The next two runs were scored via bases loaded walks to Crank and White. Then finally, just as the scoring in the inning began, Hollifield delivered an RBI single to center to put the Leopards up 11-3.
Two double plays and other great defense in the final three innings sealed the deal for the Leps. Despite falling to the Warriors 10-0 in 5 innings on Tuesday, the Leopards were victorious by a count of 11-3. With the victory, Louisville has now taken 7 out of the last 9 meetings from West Branch and has won the last four home meetings in the series overall.
UP NEXT: The Leopards will next travel to North Canton to take on the Hoover Vikings on Monday, April 15 at 5:00 PM. Tomorrow JV will host Jackson at 2:00 PM and the Freshman will host Jackson at 3:00 PM. The JV and Freshman squads will host Hoover Monday at 5 PM as well.
