Louisville Earns 1st Win Over Garfield in Jimmy Gooden Classic – Boys Basketball

The Louisville Leopards Boys Varsity Basketball Team defeated the Akron Garfield Golden Rams 70-53 Saturday Afternoon. The contest was held at Akron Springfield High School as part of Jimmy Gooden Classic. With the victory, Louisville improves to 1-2 on the young season.

Aljancic and Nigro Combine for 45
Senior wing Will Aljancic scored 16 of his game high 26 points in the opening half to lead the Leopards to their first victory of the season. Aljancic also hit home 4 of Louisville’s 9 three-pointers during the game.
Junior guard Hayden Nigro made 3 three-pointers and finished with 19 for the Leopards. Nigro was held scoreless in the first quarter, but made a pair of threes in the second period before scoring 12 of his points in the second half.
Sophomore forward Brayden Gross also surpassed double digits with 12 and senior guard Kyle Vesely made a pair of three-pointers for LHS.
Vaughn & Walker Lead Golden Rams
Senior guard Marquis Vaughn and sophomore guard Thomas Walker each reached double digits and combined for 25 to lead Akron Garfield. Vaughn made 3 of the Golden Rams’ 8 three-pointers and was the team’s leading scorer with 13. Walker also cashed in on a pair of three-pointers and finished with 12.
Other top scorers for Akron Garfield included sophomore guard Cory Rosenthal with 8 and junior guard Taejon Smith with 7.
This was the first known meeting between the two schools in boys basketball.
UP NEXT: The Leopards will next travel to take on the Boardman Spartans on Friday, December 9. JV is slated to begin at 5:30 PM and Varsity will follow around 7:00 PM from BHS.
