The Louisville Leopards Varsity Football Team was doubled up by the host New Philadelphia Quakers 42-21 in their season opener Friday Night at Louisville Leopards Stadium.

Burick Throws for 299 Yards in Loss
Senior quarterback Owen Burick finished 22 of 32 passing for 299 yards and threw a touchdown to lead the Leopard offense. Burick’s lone touchdown came late in the first quarter when he hit junior tight end Austin Wade over the middle for a 34 yard endzone strike. The play capped off an 8 play, 65 yard scoring drive and senior kicker Carter Duskey’s extra point knotted the game at 7-7.
Wade would finish as Louisville’s top receiver with 4 catches for 82 yards. Senior wide receiver Tate Golden also had 4 catches for 60 yards, sophomore wide receiver Quin Burick hauled in 4 passes for 48 yards, and senior wide receiver Braiden Hershey made 4 receptions for 43 yards.
DiMarzio Runs for a Pair of Touchdowns
Sophomore runningback Owen DiMarzio was Louisville’s leading rusher with 7 rushes for 24 yards and 2 touchdowns. He first reached the endzone on a 3rd-and-6 play from the 7 yard line. DiMarzio ran a sweep to the left to cap off a 5 play, 44 yard Leopard scoring drive. The score was setup by a 25 yard Burick to Kolton Loy connection down the left sideline to the New Philadelphia 11 yard line. Duskey’s extra point rang true again giving Louisville a 14-7 lead with 11:21 left in the second quarter.
DiMarzio also scored on a 6 yard touchdown run with 4:02 remaining in the fourth quarter. His second score cut the deficit to 35-21, but the Leopards were unable to get any closer.
Richardson and Fausel Lead New Philadelphia
Senior runningback Etnie Richardson carried the ball 26 times for 173 yards and finished with 3 total touchdowns. Trailing 14-7, Richardson made touchdown receptions of 19 and 12 yards in the second quarter that put New Philadelphia in front 21-14 at the half. Richardson also broke free for a 60 yard touchdown run that put the Quakers in front 35-14 with 10:46 to go in the game.
New Philadelphia junior quarterback Keaton Fausel was 14 of 18 passing for 222 yards, and threw 3 touchdown passes. He also ran for a 7 yard touchdown that capped off a 15 play, 99 yard third quarter scoring drive.
Fausel’s top target was 6’7 senior tight end Owen Schoelles who made 3 catches for 100 yards, which included a 24 yard touchdown reception for the game’s first score. Junior wide receiver Pete DiDonato also caught 5 passes for 77 yards.
Leopards Vs. Quakers All-Time Series
The Leopards are now 1-3 against the Quakers all-time, which includes a 1-2 mark when playing at New Philadelphia in the series. The Quakers have taken all three regular season matchups (previously 1988 and 1989). Louisville’s lone win was an 18-7 victory in the 2004 DII, Region 7 quarterfinals.
This was the Leopards first trip to New Philadelphia since 2007. Louisville defeated Dresden Tri-Valley 22-13 at Woody Hayes Quaker Stadium in the DII, Region 7 semifinals on November 9, 2007 en rout to their run to the state title game. The Leopards are 2-2 all-time when playing within the confines of Woody Hayes Quaker Stadium. . .
