Leopards Sweep Lions in Doubleheader at Minerva – Softball

The Louisville Leopards Varsity Softball Team traveled to take on the host Minerva Lions in a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Minerva Middle School. Louisville shutout Minerva 7-0 in game one and then defeated the Lions again in game two by the final count of 8-5. The Lady Leopards have now won four consecutive games and improve to 5-2 on the season with the wins.

Game 1: Louisville 7, Minerva 0
Freshman pitcher Anna Sirohman pitched a complete game 6-hit shutout and struck out 10 to lead the Lady Leopards in game one. Her game defining inning came in the bottom of the second when the Lions put runners on first and second with no one out. Sirohman fanned the next three batters leaving the runners stranded and keeping the shutout intact.
Junior shortstop Matti Benson batted 2-for-4 with an RBI single in the third and an inside-the-park 2-run home run in the fourth. The inside-the-parker counts as Benson’s team leading fourth home run of the season, which is also the 22nd of her varsity career.

Louisville Varsity Softball ‘23 secured the victory thanks to four runs in the third inning. Matti Benson, Sirohman, Addy Campbell, and Chay Cline all contributed in the big inning with RBIs.
One bright spot for Minerva was a single by J. Shafer in the first inning.
Sirohman led the Louisville Varsity Softball ‘23 to victory in the pitcher’s circle. Sirohman allowed six hits and zero runs over seven innings, striking out ten and walking one.
B Murray toed the rubber for Minerva. Murray lasted seven innings, allowing nine hits and seven runs while striking out three.
Louisville Varsity Softball ‘23 launched one home run on the day. Benson put one out in the fourth inning.
Louisville Varsity Softball ‘23 tallied nine hits on the day. Kaitlin Twinem, Benson, and Kenzi Denzer all managed multiple hits for Louisville Varsity Softball ‘23. Denzer, Benson, and Twinem each managed two hits to lead Louisville Varsity Softball ‘23.
Minerva collected six hits on the day. S Cress and M French all managed multiple hits for Minerva.

Louisville Varsity Softball ‘23 jumped out to an early lead over Minerva and took home an 8-5 victory on Saturday. Louisville Varsity Softball ‘23 scored on a fielder’s choice by Anna Sirohman in the first inning, a double by Brooke Haren in the second inning, and a fielder’s choice by Olivia Mongiardo in the second inning.
Louisville Varsity Softball ‘23 earned the victory despite allowing Minerva to score four runs in the third inning. B Murray and T Klingensmith all moved runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.
In the bottom of the first inning, Minerva tied things up at one. Klingensmith singled on a 0-2 count, scoring one run.
Louisville Varsity Softball ‘23 pulled away for good with two runs in the second inning. In the second Haren doubled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run and S Cress induced Mongiardo to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored.
Louisville Varsity Softball ‘23 scored three runs in the third inning. Louisville Varsity Softball ‘23 batters contributing to the big inning included Sirohman and Addy Campbell, who each had RBIs in the inning.
Sirohman got the win for Louisville Varsity Softball ‘23. Sirohman went five innings, allowing zero runs on three hits, striking out seven and walking one.
Cress led things off in the circle for Minerva. The pitcher surrendered seven runs on eight hits over four innings, striking out two and walking zero. Murray threw three innings in relief.
Katie Heath started the game for Louisville Varsity Softball ‘23. The southpaw went two innings, allowing five runs on two hits and striking out one

Louisville Varsity Softball ‘23 totaled 11 hits in the game. Campbell, Matti Benson, and Haren each managed multiple hits for Louisville Varsity Softball ‘23. Campbell led Louisville Varsity Softball ‘23 with three hits in four at bats.
Klingensmith went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Minerva in hits.
