Louisville Digs Out of Early Hole in Road Win at Massillon 72-66 – Boys Basketball

The Louisville Leopards Boys Varsity Basketball Team rallied from a double digit fist half deficit to defeat the host Massillon Tigers 72-66 Tuesday Night at Washington High School. Louisville has now won 3 straight and improves to 17-4 on the season with the victory.

Aljancic Scores Team High 25 for Louisville
Senior wing Will Aljancic scored 10 of his team high 25 points in the third quarter to lead the Leopard comeback. Louisville trailed 34-30 at halftime, but outscored Massillon 29-12 in the third to take a double digit 59-46 lead into the fourth quarter.
Other Louisville players in double figures included sophomore forward Brayden Gross with 12 and junior guard Hayden Nigro with 11. The Leopards only shot 13 of 21 (61%) from the line for the game, but Nigro was a perfect 7 for 7 from the stripe.
Massillon Takes 10-0 Lead at the Start
Massillon jumped out to a 10-0 lead at the start of the contest and led 17-11 at the end of the first. The Tigers pulled ahead by as much as 25-13 before sophomore guard Tate Aljancic’s three-pointer midway through the second quarter cut the Leopard deficit to single digits.
Louisville managed to cut the Massillon lead to 4 points by halftime and carried that momentum into the third quarter. Sophomore point guard Beau Siegfried’s second three-pointer of the night with under six minutes left in the third quarter gave the Leopards their first lead of the game at 39-38.
Louisville Close 3rd Quarter on 18-2 Run
After surrendering the lead to Louisville, the Tigers went back in front 44-41. However, LHS answered with an 18-2 run to the close the third quarter in taking a 59-46 lead. The Leopards, who had once trailed by 12 in the second quarter, now led by 13 heading into the final stanza.
Late Tiger Rally Iced by Leopard FTs
The Tigers managed to rally back to within 68-64 with 41.3 seconds left in the game. Sophomore power forward Elijah Farrington pulled down an offensive board off a missed free throw and put it back up and in to cap off a 6-0 Massillon run.
The Leopards iced the game from the line after that. Both Nigro and sophomore forward Ashton Marshall sunk a pair of free throws in the final 40 seconds to seal Louisville’s seventh victory in 8 games.
Farrington Scores Game High 27 for Massillon
The Tigers (12-9) were led by Farrington who scored 10 of his game high 27 points in the fourth quarter. Sophomore guard Chris Knight and freshman guard Jadyce Thigpen also scored 11 points each for Massillon.
Louisville Wins 5th Straight Vs. Massillon
The Leopards have now won their last five matchups with the Tigers dating back to 2017. Louisville is now 10-17 against Massillon all-time, which includes a 5-7 record when playing at Washington High School in the series.
