The Louisville Leopards Boys Varsity Basketball Team fell to the host Lake Blue Streaks 47-38 Tuesday Night at Lake High School. The loss snaps the Leopards 3-game winning streak as they drop to 11-9 on the year.
Will Aljancic made 3 three-pointers and finished with a team-high 13 points to lead Louisville. Tyler Boldon also scored 8 points and Broc Pickens added 7 for the Leopards.
Blue Streaks Take Early Double Digit Lead
The Blue Steaks led wire to wire. They scored the first five points of the game and took a double digit 14-4 lead less than five minutes into the contest. Junior JJ Vaughan made 3 first quarter three-pointers to help propel Lake to the early lead.
The Blue Streaks would extend their advantage to 17-6 before Louisville answered with a 7-0 run to get within 17-13 early on in the second quarter. However, Lake re-upped their lead to double figures by scoring the final nine points of the half to take a 29-16 lead into the locker room.
A Game of Runs and Momentum
A basket by Pickens put the Leopards on the board first in the second half, but the Blue Streaks countered with a 6-0 run to take their largest lead of the contest at 35-18.
Louisville took timeout and stole momentum back with a 9-0 run. That chopped the Lake advantage to single digits at 35-27. The Blue Streaks answered back with a pair of lay-ins to go back up by double digits at 39-27 after that.
Louisville Rally Falls Short
The Leopards rallied back one last time with an 11-0 run that stretched from the end of the third quarter into the first few minutes of the fourth quarter. That shrunk their disadvantage to 41-38 with 5:12 remaining in the game. Boldon and Aljancic both hit three-pointers as part of the run and Louisville appeared to be on their way to a monumental comeback.
In one final stunning turnaround, the Blue Streaks shutout the Leopards the remainder of the game and scored 6 unanswered points to end the evening.
Vaughan Leads Lake With Game-High 16
Vaughan finished with a game-high 16 to lead Lake. Senior Tyler Stadulis scored 12 of his 13 point in the second half and junior Camden Horning also finished with 9 for the Blue Streaks.
Louisville has now dropped 4 of their last 5 matchups against Lake, which includes the last three played in Uniontown. The Leopards are now 13-22 against the Blue Steaks all-time dating back to 1980, which includes a 5-13 record in games played at Lake.
