Lady Leopards Winning Streak Comes to a Halt at Jackson – Softball
Jackson 6, Louisville 5
The Louisville Leopards Varsity Softball Team lost a heartbreaker 6-5 against the host Jackson Polar Bears Monday Evening at Jackson High School. The loss snaps the Lady Leopards 8-game winning streak as they drop to 13-3 for the season.
Kaycee Ollis batted 2-for-4 and batted in a pair of runs to lead Louisville. Ollis gave the Leopards their first lead of the game when she doubled home Sydney McKeever to make it 2-1 in the top of the third. Louisville would score four runs in the inning to take a commanding 4-1 lead, but Jackson rallied back with a back-to-back two run innings in the fourth and fifth to snatch back the lead.
Down to their final out, Ollis came through with a clutch 2-out RBI single to score the game-tying run in Teagan Rice from second base. Rice also singled with 2 outs in the at-bat before and advanced into scoring position after a Polar Bear error. With the game tied at 5-5, the two squads headed into the last of the seventh.
Louisville got two quick outs and extra innings looked inevitable. But Sophia Fornicola began the Jackson rally on a single to center. Lexi Eckman was hit by the next pitch and Amanda Oeder singled to load the bases with two outs. Then Ellie Chevalier delivered a single to left field on a 1-1 pitch scoring Fornicola to lift the Polar Bears to the 6-5 walk-off victory.
Both teams finished with 10 hits during the contest. Lady Leopards lead-off batter McKeever went 2-for-3 and stole a pair of bases. Alex Fankhauser also hit an RBI double in the third. Both Kaylee Nolte and Rice also drove runs during that four run inning.
Jackson was led by Chevalier who went 3-for-4 and Sophia Bernard who also cracked a pair of RBI doubles. Amanda Oeder also finished with a multi-hit game. Fornicola and Eckman also drove in runs on back-to-back fielder’s choices in fifth.
