The Louisville Leopards Girls Varsity Basketball Team fell to the host Green Bulldogs 57-37 Wednesday Night at Green High School. With the loss, Louisville is now 7-3 on the season.


Haren Scores Game High 13 to Lead Louisville

My Fit Life Personal Trainer Side AdSophomore guard Brooke Haren scored 11 of her game high 13 points in the second half to lead the Lady Leopards. Senior forward Kelsey Adelman also tallied 6, and both freshman guard Courtney Barwick and senior forward Aubrey Thorne added 5 each for Louisville.


Bulldogs Take Command with Early 9-0 Run

Lingenhoel Group - Arden and Lisa Lingenhoel - Cutler Real Estate AdThe Lady Leopards scored on the first possession of the contest when senior Kendal Loy snagged an offensive rebound and put it back up and in to break the ice. The 2-0 lead would be Louisville’s only advantage of the night as Green answered back with a 9-0 run over the course of the next 3:41. The Bulldogs would pull ahead by double digits at the end of the first quarter 18-8.

The Leopards used 6-0 run to pull within 20-14 early on in the second quarter. A basket by senior guard Maddie Dyer followed by back-to-back layups by Adelman forced Green to call timeout with 6:12 to go before halftime. The Lady Bulldogs responded by outscoring Louisville 13-7 throughout the remainder of the second quarter to take a commanding 33-21 lead at the break.


Green Extends Advantage in Second Half

Jenny Can Cleaning AdThorne opened the second half with the Leopards only three-pointer of the contest to get the Lady Leopards within 33-24. Green answered with a 12-2 run to take a 45-26 lead deep into the third quarter and allowed LHS to score just once from the floor during the run that spanned 7:41. Haren scored from the field at the 4:47 mark and then again with 9 seconds to play in the period to halt a string of eight straight Bulldogs points. Green junior guard Riley Chmielewski hit her mark on a buzzer beating basket on the other end to put GHS in front 47-28 heading into the fourth.

Louisville would shrink the deficit to as little as 49-35 following back-to-back baskets by Loy and Haren with 5:39 to play. However, the Bulldogs defense clamped down and held the Leopards scoreless from the field the rest of the way during an 8-2 run to close the game. LHS only managed to score again when Haren hit a pair of free throws with 2:58 left to cut the deficit to 55-37. Green would end the evening with their largest lead of the night at 20 points.


Chmielewski and Slates Lead Bulldogs

The Lady Bulldogs (9-1) were led by Chmielewski who made a pair of three-pointers and finished with a team high 11 points. Freshman forward Jenna Slates also reached double figures with 10. Nine different Green players scored during the contest which included junior guard Mallory Oddo, senior guard Madi Pukansky, and freshman forward Sydney Shocklee adding 8 points each.

The Lady Bulldogs have now defeated the Lady Leopards in 6 of their past 7 meetings dating back to 2016. Louisville is now 4-9 against Green all-time, which includes a 2-3 mark when playing at Green High School. Each of the last three meetings in the series have been played at Green.
