The Louisville Leopards Girls Varsity Basketball team demolished the visiting Coventry Comets Wednesday Night at Louisville High School. With the victory, Louisville improves to 7-2 on the season.
Sophomore Brooke Haren scored 9 of her team high 13 points in the first quarter to help the Leopards put the Comets away early. Senior Kelsey Adelman also tallied 8 of her 12 points in the first half and freshman Courtney Barwick finished with 7 of her 10 points in the opening half as well.

Leopards Storm Out to 20-1 Lead
Louisville stormed out of the gate in taking a 10-0 lead just 1:51 into the contest. Following a Coventry free throw, the Leopards used another 10-0 run to take a commanding 20-1 advantage. Senior forward Maryssa Heard made the Lady Comets first field goal at the 2:49 mark of the opening quarter.
Louisville led 26-3 at the end of the first and strung together a 16-0 run to pull ahead 36-3. Heard’s second basket with 1:46 to go before halftime ended the Leopard run and snapped Coventry’s 9:03 scoring drought. LHS rolled into the half with a 38-5 lead.

Louisville Builds Mercy Rule Lead
The running clock mercy rule was officially invoke for the first time in a Louisville basketball game in the third quarter. It ran the rest of the way as the LHS margin never dipped below 30. The Lady Leopards used a 10-0 run to build a 50-9 lead and rode a 54-16 advantage into the fourth quarter.
There was no junior varsity game, but the varsity bench got into the action in the second half. Eleven different Louisville players scored from the floor as LHS built their largest advantage of the game at 64-16. The Leopard defense also held the Comets off the board in the fourth quarter until junior point guard Lexi Dimeff hit a three-pointer with 1:18 to play. Louisville would outscored Coventry 12-5 for the period to take the game 66-21 as the final buzzer sounded.

Heard Leads Coventry with Game High 15
The Lady Comets were led by Heard who scored a game high 15 points. Dimeff and junior center Cailey Hughes also added 3 each for Coventry.
This was the first meeting between the Leopards and Comets since the 2007 DII Massillon Sectional Finals and first regular season meeting since 2002. Louisville has now defeated Coventry in four straight meetings overall. The Leopards lead the all-time series over the Comets 6-2, which includes a 2-1 edge in games played at Louisville
