Leopards Advance in OTCA Tournament, Now 10-0 – Boys Tennis
Louisville 4, Boardman 1
The Louisville Leopards Boys Tennis Team went on the road to defeat the host Boardman Spartans 4-1 Monday in the second round of the Division I OTCA Team Tournament. With the victory, Louisville improved to 8-0 matching their best start since 2005.
The Leopards needed just two sets to win 4 of the 5 matches. Ryan Pukys earned a 6-3, 6-3 win in #1 singles over Boardman’s Justin Olsen. Griffin Millspaugh also won #3 singles for Louisville by a tally of 7-5, 6-1 over Ryder Kreps.
The Leopards continued their doubles dominance as they won both matches in straight sets. The #1 doubles team of Spencer Hall and Scott Gronow won 6-1, 6-2. The #2 doubles team of Owen Pukys and Corban Brown doubled up the Spartans duo twice 6-3, 6-3.
Peyton Curtis was the only winner for Boardman in #2 singles. He defeated Louisville’s Nick Eneix 6-0, 6-4.
Leopards Off to Best Start Since 1991 at 10-0
Following their victory at Boardman in the OTCA tournament Monday, Louisville shutout the United Local Eagles at home on April 9 and the Wooster Generals on April 10. Louisville won all five matchups in straight sets for both matches.
This is just the fourth time in team history that the Leopards have started a season 10-0. The 1991 Louisville Boys Tennis team was the last to start off 10-0 before losing to Marlington 3-2 in their 11th match of the season. The 1983 team started with 13 straight wins and the 1979 team finished a perfect 17-0.
