The Jackson Polar Bears avenged an 11-0 opening day loss to the Louisville Lady Leopards with a 3-1 victory at Jackson High School Monday. The loss snaps a 7-game winning streak for the Lady Leopards and drops them to 10-2 on the season.
The Leopards only run came in the opening inning. Shelby Swigert singled, stole second, and then scored on a double by Chandler Rice. Rice finished 2-for-3 for the game, while Swigert went 3-for-4. Louisville’s biggest threat to get back in the game came in the sixth inning when they loaded the bases. But the Polar Bears got out of the inning keeping the score 3-1. The Leopards had 2 on with 2 out in the 7th when a pick-off by the catcher ended the ball game giving the Polar Bears a stunning 3-1 win.
Gianna Falcone also fanned 5 on the mound for the Leps. Louisville is now 10-25 against Jackson all-time according to Leopard Nation records, but the series is tied 5-5 over the last 10 meetings.
